In a light-hearted yet pointed moment, Vice President Kamala Harris took aim at former President Donald Trump during a pre-recorded video address for the Al Smith charity dinner in New York City. Although Harris couldn’t attend the event in person due to her campaign commitments in Wisconsin, she found a unique way to make an impact through a video featuring comedian Molly Shannon. Shannon reprised her famous “Saturday Night Live” character, Mary Katherine Gallagher, a Catholic schoolgirl, for the occasion.

The video began with Harris asking Shannon’s character for advice on her speech, leading to a comedic exchange peppered with subtle jabs at Trump. “So tell me something, I’m giving a speech. Do you have some thoughts about what I might say tonight?” Harris asked Shannon, setting the stage for a playful interaction.

Shannon responded with a mix of humor and moral advice, saying, “Don’t lie. Thou shall not bear false witness to thy neighbor.”

Harris, seizing the opportunity to take a dig at Trump’s ongoing denial of the 2020 election results, replied, “Indeed, especially thy neighbor’s election results.”

The banter didn’t stop there. Shannon cautioned Harris against saying anything negative about Catholics, to which Harris quipped, “I would never do that no matter where I was. That would be like criticizing Detroit in Detroit,” referring to Trump’s recent disparaging comments about the city during a speech in Detroit.

The video continued with Shannon asking Harris, “Does it bother you that Trump guy insults you all the time?”

Harris offered a measured and empowering response: “You should never let anyone tell you who you are, you tell them who you are.”

Following this humorous exchange, Shannon left the scene, and Harris addressed the dinner attendees directly. Her message turned serious as she emphasized the importance of the event’s tradition of unity and charitable work. “The Al Smith dinner provides a rare opportunity to set aside partisanship and come together to do some good by supporting the tremendous charitable work of the Catholic church,” Harris said in her speech.

She encouraged the audience to focus on unity and cooperation, saying, “In the spirit of tonight’s dinner, let us recommit to reaching across divides, to seek understanding and common ground. And in honor of the great Al Smith, let us fight to build a better future with faith in God, our country, and in each other.”

The Al Smith dinner, now in its 79th year, is hosted by New York Cardinal Timothy Dolan and is a key event for political figures, offering them a chance to engage in some good-natured humor while also supporting the charitable efforts of the Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation. Harris’ absence at the dinner was noted by Trump, who attended in person and criticized her for not being there.

The event has long been a venue where presidential candidates make light-hearted remarks every four years, but it took on a different tone in 2016 when Trump used the occasion to launch attacks against then-opponent Hillary Clinton. In 2020, both Trump and President Joe Biden addressed the dinner virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Harris' speech, though remote, struck a balance between humor and sincerity, reminding the audience of the importance of unity in a deeply divided time.

The other guy is busy cancelling appearances, and expressing his wish that he was running against Biden while never being sure where it is he himself is.  It’s all got a bit too much for him.

Hey he has made double the amount of appearances as your beloved Kamala

Trump's speech was very funny.

Harris   who ducked the event had to use a professional comedian and illustrated her  failed attempt at humour via vidio.

For those who are his base, sure. For the rest of us, it was small-minded and snarky, without any grace befitting the occasion - a Catholic charity event.

Mind you, I can't blame you for your enthusiasm. It's a hell of a lot better than some old guy dancing around to music for half an hour during a so-called "Town Hall" event.

You mean when he called a couple of pauses for people being treated for medical emergencies?  The Dems would have just kept yakking, and let them die.

You guys really think that lying about stuff then posting will work? It's worked for Trump, so why not us? I guess?

Rather than continue after paramedics assisted the two people, Trump instructed his staff to just play music from a playlist he has personally curated and famously often turns on during dinners at Mar-a-Lago.

“Who the hell wants to hear questions?” Trump said at the event where the entire point was to take audience questions. “Right?”

What followed was more than 30 minutes of Trump swaying on stage and occasionally doing his well-known two-handed dance to some of his favorite tunes, chatting with the event's host, South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, and occasionally interacting with attendees who were seated behind the stage.

“This is the weirdest church service I have ever been to,” a first-time rallygoer who did not give their name told NBC News of the music portion of the event, which opened with “Ave Maria.”

Kamal's taped presentation seemed a little out of place. But not a much as she would have been had she attended. She's way out of her league.

Apparently, the video bombed at the dinner. Chuck Schumer looked miserable.

Gaffigan rocked it...  I wonder what they'll indict him for?

Jim Gaffigan:

“If I am too critical of Vice President Harris, I will lose friendships and mess up my career,” he said. “And if I am too critical of President Trump, I will lose friendships and improve my career. You know what I mean?”

“The Democrats have been telling us Trump’s reelection is a threat to democracy. In fact, they were so concerned of this threat, they staged a coup, ousted their democratically elected incumbent, and installed Kamala Harris.  In other words, all her dreams have come true,”

Has anyone seen a Harris rally? Heres a key speaker on her campaign of joy (albeit failing campaign) in Detroit recently. Who exactly is the bloke in the video going to inspire? Maybe the folks reading this post will experience the inspiration? LOL

Compare this to a Trump rally and/or the Elon Musk rallies stumping for Trump. 17 days to go before democrats lose their $hit and go into meltdown unless they have adequate fraud mechanisms in place.

This is more like it. And just one of many reasons Trump is 17 days away from becoming 47th  POTUS and Kamala is a waste of oxygen and destined to failure.

And so is this. This a formidable, exceptional collection of achievers and highly intelligent movers and shakers who can and will rebuild Biden/Harris' admins 4 years of destruction on America and it's citizens and restore America to it's brilliance created under Trump. Hard to find capable democrats with actual intelligence it seems, but one only need to look at republicans, especially those shown below. These are people who bring solutions, democrats creat problems, they create problems where there are no problems. It's a democrat trait and obvious pathogen to everything they touch.

So unfunny. I bet it took her 50 takes as well.

Zero charisma. Just pre recorded garbage in a whiney voice  Fortunately she will disappear in 3 weeks.

Trump’s speech was juvenile and stupid meanwhile VP Harris is out doing real interviews talking to Americans making policy statements so we’re it trump?did he have a stroke or something?canceling his events……he certainly talks like he’s had a stroke perhaps that explains things.

The only Stroke Trump has had is the 'lucky stroke' of running against Harris as a last minute option.
