? Is 100/hour suitable for part-time maid in CM?
Thank you for helpful comments above. #1 - With Thai helpers, I have learned over many years to only pay by the hour. And I tell them, "Slow-slow, careful-careful, clean in all the corners." If pay "by the job" or "by the day", they rush-rush to finish and get the money. But I realize that is not the Thai way -- they are used to paid by the job or paid by the day, so it takes some adjustment for them to getting paid by the hour. #2 - Also learned from hiring all kinds of people in my business over many years, to pay about 25-30% over prevailing average in the area. Attracts better workers. And they tend to stay longer. Plus, in Thailand, they can "make big face" by bragging how much they get paid from farang. That adds extra value to the job for them. So posting here to determine prevailing wage in CM area. ... Comments and critique welcome. @Will B Good, can you send your MIL over here: Chiang Mai - Doi Saket road? My previous two maids were both age late 50's, from up-country background, and excellent at taking care of details. (I don't want any "cute young things" ... not as maids.) I'll offer free lunch, too, (catered by LineMan delivery). Work indoors with 2 fans! And all the iced coffee she might want is already getting cold in my fridge. -

Thai Parties Dismiss Election Commission's Investigation into Thaksin
Obviously, that was also a shady character. But what is worse, hiding the ownership of companies and many millions in stocks in the name of nominees or having lots of watches? The courts could have removed Thaksin when he just started, but somehow, they let him get away with his explanation that was an honorable mistake. Thai History would have been very different if the courts would have decided differently. -

Does your Thai wife keep you on a short leash?
This can be the case for any relationship anywhere in the world, well except for some very strict religious countries. I don't mind being bossed about on a small scale and I use the word 'bossed' very loosely, for example, I am not that good at eating fruit, and so every afternoon as I am writing software in my home office a plate of prepared fruits is slapped on my desk in front of me followed by the word, "eat". I gladly comply as it is good for me, it is more about concern than being bossy. -

US Visa for Thai Citizen - Do they have an Undisclosed Quota.
There is no quota. UK and US visa issuing procedures have nothing to do with each other. As others have said, introducing information about her partner would have been seen as negative, not a positive. Though I suppose unavoidable if she has no income of her own. If they were legally married and the partner resident in Thailand on long term visa that would have helped. Non-marital partners hold no weight in visa decisions. Lack of a job and lack of spouse or dependents staying behind in Thailand would be a significant negative in the eyes of consular officer. The other unknown is of course how she replied to questions in the interview. My guess is that her odds of success in a repeat application are very low unless her circumstances change (e.g she marries her partner). -

Windows 10 support ends in a year . . .
The good news is that your laptop accepts NVMe SSD drives, so you don't even have to remove the old and slow magnetic spinning hard disk drive(HDD) Take a look at this video. It demonstrates Solid State Drives. Keep in mind that the WD Blue SSD on the left would already be 3 to 5 times faster in practice than the horribly slow HDD currently in your laptop. The NVMe SSD faster still. Your laptop accepts NVMe drives. Takes minutes to fit and enable as your boot drive. 250GB NVMe can cost as little as 1400 baht. https://shopee.co.th/product/77731722/2337841189 -

British Man Drives 500 km to See 'Lamduan,' Sisaket’s Baby Hippo
I’m sure it would have been at the insistence of his wife or gf. Fark me, it’s just a baby hippo and yet it’s been in the news for the best part of 2 months now. Time to move on. Hardly news. -

When Trump wins can we expect more of the same from the violent Left?
And this astounding revelation is headline news in all right wing media I suppose? Because if not then we have to consider this as just another all fart and no poo post. Don't you agree?- 1

British Man Drives 500 km to See 'Lamduan,' Sisaket’s Baby Hippo
Thanks for that, I couldn't be bother reading the full article. Just a nonsense article, not worthy of a headline. Should read 'man with mental health issues drives 500 km for no reason'
