Thailand to tax residents’ foreign income irrespective of remittance
And as I posted a few times already - a Thai tax ID is NOT so easy to get. My wife tried (for me) and failed. Some months back she applied on line for the Tax ID. That goes to a Bangkok office, and they forwarded my application to Phuket. She received a phone call from an official working in the Phuket RD who asked for (1) confirmation I resided > 180 days in Phuket per calendar year, and (2) where was my income source, and (3) was I bringing this income into Thailand. My wife replied (1) yes I resided > 180 days in Thailand per calendar year, and (2) my income source was foreign pensions from OUTSIDE of Thailand, and (3) I was not bringing money into Thailand at present, as I previously brought a lot in long before 1-Jan-2024. The official told her I did not need a tax ID as long as I was not bringing money into Thailand. Now my view is that does not mean the situation won't change in the future, but that was what she was told by a Thai RD official. The story actually doesn't 100% end there. My wife asked some questions of the Phuket RD official, one question being she noted my Thai pink ID number was rejected as a tax-ID by the online tax forms. Why was that? The Phuket RD official noted the Thai pink ID could only be used as a tax-ID in an on-line form AFTER it was activated. Mine was not activated. (and again he noted he saw no reason to activate mine). Another question my wife asked was, given I am on an LTR visa, if I were to have brought for a tax year (ie tax reporting year) income into Thailand, would I on an LTR visa have to pay Thai tax on such income (if not covered by a DTA?). The Phuket RD official noted they never heard of an LTR visa, and they would have to check on this and phone back. .... That was many months ago. They never phoned back. Clearly the Phuket RD are in no hurry to assign Thai tax IDs to foreigners (at least not in my case). -

Pre-paid Credit Card
I agree with DB's comment above. But also the main difference between a debit card and credit card secured by a fixed account is that when you use a debit card the charge is taken from your account directly at time of purchase. When you use the secured credit card the charge is added to your card balance which you then pay off at the end of the month or (whenever) like a normal credit card. The fixed account which secures the card never comes into play unless you fail to pay off the balance which will cause the card to be cancelled and then the fixed account is used to recover the funds. -

King Chulalongkorn is renowned for the modernization of Siam and major reforms, founding its first university , and abolishing slavery. As the fifth monarch of the Chakri dynasty, King Chulalongkorn is known as King Rama V and is grandfather to His Majesty the Late King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great (King Rama IX). The reformist monarch Early on in his reign, more than a third of the Siamese population were slaves. Those who could not live independently sold themselves into indentured servitude, which would be passed onto their children, forming multi-generational slave families. King Chulalongkorn interceded, enacting a royal decree to reduce the price of redemption for slaves born in 1868, allowing those slave children to be freed by the age of 21. By 1905, the Slave Abolition Act ended Siamese slavery in its entirety, and slave owners were forced to reduce their slaves' debt by 1 baht per month until they were free. In homage to the Act, the reverse side of the 100 baht banknote (Series 15, Type 2) depicts King Chulalongkorn in Royal Thai Navy Uniform, abolishing the slave tradition. Now, the monarch is also referred to as Phra Piyamaharaj or the “Great Beloved King,” as well as Phra Phuttha Chao Lhuang or the “Royal Buddha.” The Equestrian Statue The majority of Dusit district in Bangkok was built during the reign of King Chulalongkorn, and the surviving buildings show a mix of Thai and European-style architecture. There, in the Royal Plaza, stands the Equestrian Statue of King Rama V, in front of Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall. Originally, the bronze sculpture was built to commemorate the 40th anniversary of King Chulalongkorn's reign, who, at the time, was the longest-reigning monarch in Siamese history. The statue was inspired by the Equestrian Statue of King Louis XIV at the Palace of Versailles in France, following the Siamese monarch's “Grand Tour of Europe” in 1907. On this day, Thais show their respect to the great reformer by placing wreaths at the Equestrian Statue. In addition, the Chulalongkorn rose, a thorn-free pink rose, is offered to represent the everlasting love of Princess Dara Rasmi and King Chulalongkorn.
