I don't know if this has advanced over the years, but I have heard it's often a waste of money to do one of those genetic testing things if you know you're Ashkenazim, because most likely they'll just tell you what you already know, that you're Ashkenazism without a long list in fun other details that most people get.

That depends if there was a break within the Ashkenazism bloodline or not. Thus, a DNA test might show you are a minority percentage of Northern European, if there was perhaps ever any infidelity going on. It's seems pretty unlikely, but still possible. If it did occur though then it probably would have been within the last 3-4 generations. Least likely 15-20 generations back because they lived more as an isolated tribe back then. I have always wondered about the IQ of the Jewish people, from starting banking generations ago when there was no such thing, now basically running the US banking system, and also the high percentage of Chess champions (almost a third are of Jewish ancestry).
