Jeju Air Flight from Bangkok Skids Off Runway at Muan Airport, 28 Dead
I am unsure why they were so quick to do a go-around after the bird strike. An aircraft is hit by birds while on final approach to land - should the pilot continue the approach or initiate a go around/missed approach? Having encountered birds, the question to be answered is "what is the damage to the aircraft and what effect will this have on the safe conduct of the flight?". The full extent of any damage, to the engines and/or the control surfaces and landing gear, may not be apparent until applying power, configuring, or manoeuvring the aircraft. It might therefore be the case that, if a go-around is initiated, the pilots rapidly find themselves in a situation where the runway is disappearing beneath them but the aircraft cannot safely fly a missed approach. Therefore, in the above scenario, it is advisable to continue the approach and land. -

Elderly Woman with Alzheimer’s Killed by Train in Udon Thani
Picture from responders. A 70-year-old woman suffering from Alzheimer’s disease was killed after being struck by a train in Udon Thani on New Year’s Day. The victim, identified as Mrs Somboon from Makkhaeng Subdistrict, Udon Thani City, had been reported missing by her family earlier in the day. Police and rescue teams were called to the railway crossing at Ban Khok Na Khong, Village 8, Nong Khon Kwang Subdistrict, after receiving reports of the incident at 19:10. The victim’s body was found lying in the grass near the tracks. An initial examination revealed a severe head trauma on the left side of her skull. Mr Suthep Chaichomphu, a local rescue volunteer, said he was alerted by a passer-by about the collision. Upon arriving at the scene, he found a freight train carrying cement parked on the tracks. The train driver reported seeing the victim cross the tracks suddenly, leaving no time to stop. After the collision, the driver halted the train near a railway bridge and sought help from nearby villagers. The victim’s family had been searching for her since the afternoon and had posted notices about her disappearance on social media. Police believe Mrs Somboon, disoriented due to her condition, wandered along the railway tracks and crossed in front of the train at the wrong moment. Her body was taken to the morgue at Udon Thani Hospital for further examination, where her family will later collect her body. -- 2025-01-03 -

US Tech wants H1-B visa workers because they're basically indentured servants. Don't like your conditions? Salary? Too bad. Quit and get deported. Tesla in Texas laid off ~2,600 US employees. In an odd coincidence, that same year they also got ~2,600 HI-B visa workers.
