Police in Phatthalung have arrested a 44-year-old man found in possession of two firearms after residents reported his involvement in drug activities and repeated gunfire to intimidate neighbours. Deputy Superintendent of Investigation, Pol. Lt. Col. Wirat Chinmuang, led the operation to apprehend the suspect, Mr. Prakasit Promaksorn.

The incident occurred on November 5, in Village 8, Ban Koh Tera, Tha Khae Subdistrict, Mueang District, Phatthalung Province. According to authorities, Mr. Prakasit fled upon spotting police vehicles, brandishing a gun as he ran from his home. He was eventually captured by officers along a canal in the Koh Tera area after discarding his .45-caliber pistol in the water, which was later retrieved by police divers.

The arrest followed multiple complaints from local residents who reported that Mr. Prakasit had been engaging in regular drug use and distribution after recently being released from prison on charges related to drugs and firearms. Neighbours also alleged that, under the influence of drugs, he would often fire his gun into the air, causing fear and unrest in the community.

Police seized two firearms in the operation: a .45-caliber automatic pistol and a .38-caliber automatic pistol, along with a supply of ammunition.

During questioning, Mr. Prakasit admitted that he had recently acquired the .45-caliber pistol for 35,000 baht two months prior, claiming he needed it for self-defense due to an ongoing land dispute with a relative, whom he alleged frequently threatened him with a long-barreled rifle.

Mr. Prakasit has been charged with illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, as well as carrying firearms in public without justification. Authorities are continuing their investigation to identify any associates or additional details related to the suspect’s activities.
