I’m same situation as you, with same considerations.    So if I decide to bail out of the Land of FAKE Smiles, what is the best way to transfer all my BKK accounts out of Thailand?

That is the worst excuse for fish n chips I have ever seen.

Just been in Spain to, and the quality of food and wine for 25 euro, is amazing compared to Thailand. Quality steaks, lamb, fresh fish (no farm fish), and vegetables, but I will not live in Spain 24/7 either. Nice to have some choices tho

I had yesterday for dinner a Fish and Chips at a beach resto with Music.
The Fish was a big junk of REAL seafish (not the Tilapa fish like in Thailand).
Had also a big portion of French Fries.
And the salad had black and green olives.
On each table was a basket with bread and a bottle of olive oil (free use).
I had also a glass of wine.
Total bill: 12.99 EUR
About the same price I would see in Phuket or so.

Another sponger going home, Thailand is full of them

Please explain?

My definition of "sponger" would be the same as a "leech"

How would that be possible in Thailand?

I agree I am not in the UK I am in OZ I went back a few years ago and do not regret it, being a pensioner now I pay nothing for healthcare nor doctor or hospital, I have not have a rent increase for 8 years yes I pay about 5600 baht per week but my pension is well over 29.000 baht per week cheap food at Aldi's, water rates included in rent what else do I need? I still go to Thailand twice a year  pay nothing for accommodation since I still have property and family there. Thailand is overrated so is the food. I can get any food here where I live but since I like cooking I only venture out ones a week. So all in all I am happy here

And the Australian taxpayer is paying for your government housing and free medical

Aren't you lucky you made the decision all those years ago to emigrate from Germany to the lucky country of Australia

How is he a sponger?

It isn't even possible to sponge in Thailand,  lol.

Sounds like he doesn’t want to pay any tax and wants free healthcare.

Sounds like a sponger to me.

According to Thai law, the THAI MOTHER keeps being the sole responsable for her children and nothing was possible without the permission of the mother.
I had to contact many times lawyers and the Immigration Police because the mother could not be traced and I needed URGENT DOCUMENTS for my daughter.
Example: In 2009, a new law was introduced that all children had to apply for an ID-Card from the age of 9.

Mother always sole responsible is not true.

ID card age is 7.

I don't give a rats a... about your opinion.

When I went with my daughter to several places in korat to apply for an iD card for my daughter, I was told everywhere that the application needed to be signed by the THAI mother. Despite that I was having the sole parenthood.

dont see any reason other than the girls to live there. Anyone that says otherwise is deluded

Here is a good reason.

( Deluded me!!!)

The 1BR UNFURNISHED APARTMENT I lived in in the USA cost me $1250.00USD a month in a apartment complex , the 2 BR UNFURNISHED HOUSE I live in now ( in Thailand ), with a fenced yard, veggie garden, carport  and indoor kitchen ) in a gated community ( close to 4 major stores and Immigration ) costs me $128 - $134.00USD ( depending on exchange rate ) a month.

Take cash out and give it to the poor. They'll always love you.

I pay taxes in my country which has tax agreements with Thailand (double taxation agreements).

The system of "free healthcare" in my country is based on the agreement that I paid for the "free healthcare" of other citizens and I am entitled to the same "free healthcare". That's not "sponging" according to my books.

There is a difference between being the only parent taking care and having sole custody.

But he, don't care.

You haven't got a clue about Thai law though.

I didn't have any "THAI female" company since my divorce in 2010. If people are happy to spend all their life savings on a greedy THAI family, it's up to them. Not me.

Can rent not buy, many people do

Thank for telling. Good luck!

PS. I may join you soon. EU have problems but freedom to live in 27 countries with same health insurance benefits is a great asset.

That's a dangerous statement to make here. Now that Trump has won.

Living in Thailand was never my first choice, but Thailand was a nice country to live in.
Everything was dirty cheap, unless you wanted to keep eating Western food and have a Western lifestyle.
Eating a full "Pad Grapao lae Kai daew" in a roadside restaurant costed 20 Baht (0.60 Euro).

But as I grew older and my Health started to go downhill, life in Thailand became less enjoyable.
Also, the cost of living became very expensive for me.
I needed to go frequently to a doctor visit at the hospital and I was feed a lot of medication.
Daily tasks became a burden to me.

What made me decide to leave Thailand?

1. In 2022, I got the message of my doctor at the hospital that my Kidney function was degradating very fast and that I would soon need to start to do a Kidney Dialysis. The cost of this would be a very big junk of my income.

2. The level of corruption at Immigration and other departments started to become a burden. At the age of 70, I am not keen to run around for every "requirement on the spot" of the immigration officers. I thought that thai people had more egard for the elderly.

3. The oncoming changes and requirements for foreigners who were staying more than 180 days in Thailand was a "NO" for me. New taxation rules, taxation on my foreign income and a message of my bank in Belgium warning me that they had send the documents about my "Wealth" that were asked by Thailand was the "Final Straw" for me.

4. I was residing in Thailand on a Retirement Visa, type "O". This type of Visa did not require to show a Health Insurance. But Immigration was changing the rules and there were remours that they would require a Health Insurance on this type of Visa as well. Which insurance company would be willing to write a health Insurance for a 70 year old men with a medical history of a Stroke, a Heart failure, a Pacemaker implant, recent surgery for an AAA, and Kidney failure?
Yes, paying a very high Insurance price which at the end would mean nothing as every little thing could be connected to existing diseases.

I went back to Europe.
I chosed Spain because it is my country of birth, the nice weather and benefit the (almost) free healthcare as an EU citizen, Besides healthcare, I have other benefits in Spain by being a 65+ citizen.

I will reside here 179 days in a year, to avoid being taxed and do trips to other countries as long a I can.
As an EU citizen, I am entitled to the EU health insurance which repatriate me in case of an accident.
If I have an accident or need hosptal care, but can not be transported, the EU healthcare will sponsor my hospital bill.

It is maybe not the most perfect choice, but for the moment it is the best option.

hello,

you please explain this ?

"As an EU citizen, I am entitled to the EU health insurance which repatriate me in case of an accident.
If I have an accident or need hosptal care, but can not be transported, the EU healthcare will sponsor my hospital bill."

normal EU heathcare support during your stay in Thailand?!

so all turists from EU pay travel insurance for nothing?

And many lawyers, and Thai immigration police who were involved in this case didn't know Thai laws as well. Lucky that the Here Frits Seaking is a specialist on Thai laws

What a plonker Here Frits is.
