Stray Dog Menace Alarms Pattaya Community, Urgent Action Demanded

Residents of Sukhumvit Pattaya Soi 15/3 are on edge as a pack of stray dogs left by a former neighbour turns aggressive, increasingly threatening the safety and wellbeing of the community. The dogs, including a mother and her pups, have become a serious concern, with more than ten involved in several attacks, resulting in injuries and medical expenses for those affected.

 

In recent days, a victim faced medical costs exceeding 7,000 baht, while another resident painfully fractured a collarbone trying to flee from the dogs. Understandably distressed, the community has been imploring local police and the Pattaya City government to take immediate action to prevent further incidents.

 

Acknowledging the gravity of the situation, the Pattaya Complaints Centre has assured residents that a veterinary team from the Pattaya Public Health Department will soon address the issue. This team is tasked with capturing the strays and transferring them to the Plutaluang Animal Shelter, where they will receive care aimed at rehabilitation and eventual adoption.

 

The Plutaluang shelter, run by the Pattaya municipality, not only serves as a sanctuary for stray animals found across the city but also prepares them for new homes after ensuring they are sterilised. Meanwhile, residents are encouraged to support this initiative by donating food or adopting one of the shelter's animals.

 

For information or assistance, locals are urged to contact the Plutaluang Shelter or the Pattaya Contact Centre at 1337, available around the clock.

Getting worse where I live....not mentioning my neighbour's 'kennels'.... a new business opened at the bottom of my road and that came with a few dogs that are now a pack, who get involved with two others nearby, and of course the neighbours dogs. Not had an issue being attacked when on my motorbike yet, but saw a Thai guy get attacked further down the road and he lost a bit of skin to the tarmac.

There are at least 14 dogs in the pack on our Soi on Pratumnak hill. They took away about 7 a couple years ago and sterilized them, but then brought them back and dumped them where they picked them up. Now other dogs have joined and had a couple litters. They are still causing trouble with chasing drivers and killing neighbors cats. They really need to get a grip on this. Spay/neuter and release just doesn’t work.

The real solution is massive, nationwide culling. These are mangy creatures, leading desperate lives. Show some nerve and compassion and take them out of the misery. Clean up the streets!

 

People get so sensitive about soi dogs, yet they do not hesitate to encourage the killing of pigs, cows and other animals for their own enjoyment and consumption. Isn't there a bit of hypocrisy there? If you eat animals, you are responsible for their slaughter. 

 

At least one can make an argument that the animals they eat serve a function. That argument cannot be made about the mangy, diseased, pestilent, sad, forlorn, abandoned soi dogs. They lead lives of desperation. 

 

If you love them show some commitment and adopt a few. Otherwise, let's get rid of them.

The masks are against the soot paticles, after all, there are many diesel cars.

Dogs aren't food besides the weirdos that eat them, being domestic animals, while the others you mention were put here for us to eat. Some people know the difference. Culling isn't the answer because it won't stop more being born as well as a stepped up spay and neuter program funded by the government could, and practiced countrywide. Reducing the births is how the population decreases. Dogs that attack should be put down, as they've never learned from anyone here respect for people, and do what wild dogs do and protect their areas. People here don't respect life as westerners do, and this shows in how animals are treated, so it's not only a dog problem but a care one.

Some animals were put here for us to eat and some as pets, what nonsense, all animals are the same. Domestic and farm animals are just artificial human constructs, why should pigs be eaten and dogs not? Strays should be put down on sight, they are vermin.

That's not going to fix the problem for Stray /Soi dogs. 

Everyone knows what Has to be done , But people/Government here are so stupid  that the only thing that  works ( Extermination) is not getting done .

It seems that Animals are More imported than people.

Think you can teach an Angus cow to search for drugs, stop criminals from attacking, smell out bombs and sleep in your bed? No, there are domestic and non domestic animals, and this has been known for centuries. Some people will eat anything, even without starving, because someone said it was okay. Strays should be neutered or spayed, and adopted out, or put down if they are aggressive. People own pets that kill others almost every week. There are homeless people who do harm, or nothing constructive. Should they be considered vermin and put down?

I don't think that's so. I think there are people out there who would provide homes for them. They just need to be found and the dogs sent to them, 

Take me, for example. I live in the mountains of Phetchabun Province. People from the city come up here and abandon their dogs, some of them who are still nursing puppies. I have a large parcel of land, about 12 rai, so can accommodate any strays we find on the road. Right now, we have 11 dogs. We spay the females but not the males. They need all the testosterone they can get to survive up here. 

My Thai neighbors all have dogs, most of them more than one. I'm sure that's the case in many areas of Thailand outside of large cities. I hope the authorities in the cities that have to deal with these dogs establish a relationship with rural areas so they can relocate these strays and not just kill them.

Since when is it allowed to suggest torturing or killing animals in Thailand? It is against the law here. Please follow the law in Thailand.

Spay and neuter does work. The problem is when people do not cooperate and when new dogs are dumped.

Spayed and neutered  dogs do not reproduce and will still chase off other dogs.
