Spike in American's interest in moving abroad post election -- hot air yet again?

A perspective on Trump having such a huge level of capability, a level that transcends not only ALL Democrats but also ALL Republicans.  He whoops ‘em all with ease.   And for guys like me who understand crowd psychology we know that 2016 was only Wave#1 up.  Then came a brutal  Wave#2 down into 2024.  Trump suffered bigtime into 2024.  This is what happens in a Wave 2.

Trump is now in Wave #3 UP.    Third waves are magical in that full throttle just breaks new records on and on.

Is there a industry or sphere in which I can demonstrate this concept of a third wave?

Yes, in a music concert with the likes of Eric Clapton & co.  They were all there.  But none was Trump.

Trump enteted at 3:29 & took off like a wave 3 rocket.  His name is Prince 😏😏👍

Sorry, Eric Clapton not in this version

but when Eric was told he was the greatest guitarist of all time he replied, “I think you’ll have to ask Prince about that”

Gosh, when Trump rescinds income taxes on social security, even YOU can afford to live in the lap of luxury.

Winning!

Wasn't biden the deciding vote on taxing social security payments?

I was kind of hoping that more of the Trumpians living in Thailand might go home now that the coast is clear and America will become great again.

I left when US started idiotic war in Iraq. Took 90% funds w me.

2 yrs ago Idiot Putin started idiotic war and I was sure Ukraine will fall fast and EU would be in disorder.

I'm happy I was wrong.

However, it ain't over yet.

To secure my hard earned money I moved 90% back to the US. I don't trust EU banks nor military & NATO.

Now I sit on the fence and enjoy Thailand and Vietnam, and soon Cambodia and Philippines too.

No plans, just go with the flow and follow my erratic and impulsive ADHD & SAD brain 🙂

PS. Actually, SAD is out of commission thanks to Thailand sun shine.

They cannae go back despite being thrilled that America will be great again!  Why so?  Because LOS is greater still, has always been so for decades in a rising trend of greatness.

IMHO, we now have 2 great ones, USA & LOS aka LOW (Land of Wars) & LOS.  Now however we can change the name of the former from LOW to LOG (Land of Greatness)

After reading the first page of posts, this appears to be a US politics topic, so under forum guidelines I've moved it to Political Soapbox.

Americans leaving, if any, will be dwarfed by foreigners dying to go to the US next year if not already

You seem to be brain dead or more!  Who gives a FF what people Google!  If people want to leave claim to leave whether Trump is in charge or not that is their right!  Why on earth would you continue your nonsense by posting a link.  So people Google how many is actually going to leave and when they do for sole reason of a person they don't like " Take let the door hit you on the way out "

Get a F life!

Don’t worry friends, THOSE back home don’t have the fortitude/guts/desire/capability to LEAVE, to simplify their lives, to cut the chord with excessive materialism etc., to move to Chiang Mai.    It takes a savvy American to appreciate the gem that is Chiang Mai. Such Americans are already here & generally wake up each day smiling for many reasons but the para below brings on the deepest mirth & chuckle

May Chiang Mai continue to have so much more to discover!  😏

Expanding on the red - blue self sorting that as you agree is definitely a big thing in the U.S. a problem I have found with that is that blue areas tend to be much more expensive!

I have a little hobby of always having a short list of possible U.S. destinations I might move back to if I'm forced to for whatever reason and in my case they need to be as low budget as possible!

So by necessity my lists are always dominated by places that are very red. Now of course not all people in even very red areas are red, but moving where you don't really belong isn't at all ideal.

I have lived in more red areas before but nothing extreme.

You know the kind of place where the first thing people ask is what church do you go to.

There are also some options in some blue cities, but they tend to be places with high crime and cold weather.

So really not so great.

Take a look at the Electoral College map that a member posted early in the thread.  Most red states also have blue areas, including all of the warmer southern states.  So, you could pick a blue area in, say, Florida or one of the other warm weather states.

The problem with the EC is it leaves a very damaging false impression.  A state can lose the presidential election by one vote and, suddenly, it is either a blue or a red state.   Do I move if my once blue state is now red in this election, or vice versa?   Not me.  Other far more important considerations would determine where I would choose to live in the US, if I still lived there.

Recently saw some stats that showed Dems and Reps made up around 32% to 33% of the voters and Independents/No answer were around 35%.  So, in most states, you're not going to be overrun by either Dems or Reps.  There will be a mix of both, plus lots of Independents.

Some issue.

A decent home for sale or rent in the blue Atlanta Georgia area costs a lot more than in a deep red area of Georgia such as Marjorie Taylor Greene's district.

We’re moving right along soon to hit 35 Baht/$

Its steep angle if ascent, which is great but its not sustainable so we get get a small downwave before continuation up resumes

Remember my call is USD-THB going to pass well beyond 50

If its pans out Americans will be happy to have so much more Baht to the $

Notice on the MACD the steep lift off in the last few days?   That’s horsepower baby

Don’t get all bent out if shape if there is a corrective sub-wave.  Waves work that way

Americans leaving USA to flock to LOS?   Hahaha,  not so fast, baby.  It will take months for travel agents to even notice the Baht getting weak.  Then & only then Americans will see, “Thailand is a bargain”

But then again,  if I’m correct, the Dollar will be hammering ALL south east asian currencies.  So the entire region will be a bargain

There will be a spike in moving here if they see the simplicity of MY life!  😏

Sold everything stateside down to just my desktop computer & 1 suitcase stored with a friend.   Feels sooooo light.

Said goodbye to playing the Mammon game.

Dinner for 140 Baht total …….    brown rice, Tom Kha Khai with coconut milk and loads of veggies & fish plus beetroot:carrot/celery/pineapple fresh juice in a humble lively Thai place.  I felt at HOME

The foolish extravagant lifestyle of California has ended for me.

The cost of living is good if you are on the very bottom of the financial totem pole. Many people aren't going to trade a mid 6 figure salary for a $4,50 pile of rice and mystery meat. The low cost of living is offset overwhelmingly by the high cost of lack of opportunity.

All above you listed looks good.

How about pollution? How many days / months air is real bad?

LA used to be real bad in '70's to 90's, for 3-4 months. Now it's much better. Red alerts are rare.

PS. Right now Pattaya is dirtier (!) than any place in Bangkok!

What's going on? I'm leaving for Ubon Ratchathani to check it out.

Thanks Gypsy.  Just trying to stay on top of all goings on with the Thai Baht which is so important to me & other American expats.   My Thai girlfriends wonder about the waxing & waning of my alleged generosity - they don’t kniw that it hinges on King Dollar vs Thai Baht!   😏😁

Have a look at the King Dollar as in the Dollar Index which measures $ strength vs Euro+Sterling+Yen+Swissy+SwedishKronor. …….

King is doing what I on bended knee beseeched him to do - thus far!  He has arrived at a resistance level.  A minor battle will be fought at this juncture.  He might just blast on thru’ or retreat ti suffer some pain & then try to hammer the resistance

Air quality:

Los Angeles coastal area where I reside WAS under 50 & generally under 25-35.  All good.  Further inland it gets progressively bad.

yardstick:  under 50 is good, over is not.  Some parts if the workd like New Delhi for example can reach 280 = “dyin ain’t much of a livin”

I monitor AQi on a regular basis esp. for Chiang Mai esp. when the Burning Season approaches.  Last year CM was rated as most polluted city.  Not good.

I have a solution for all American expats in Chiang Mai: if you decide to leave CM Feb-June,  but still want to remain in LOS,  deep southern Thailand is the destination.  Koh Samui, other islands &/or Phuket, all good!

My recommendation is

C H U M P H O N (Thung Wua Laen beach)

Europeans renting out houses etc. 5-10k Baht/mo.

Hotel rec on Thung Wua Laen beach:

Nana Resort   ….  Stunning seafood restaurant opposite,  large rooms, can soend 4 months in sybaritic quietness with the AQI under 50 (fingers crossed)

1,300 Baht/nite brekky incl.  I would work out a monthly deal with management.

God bless the day Providence had me stumble into LOS!  I’ve never looked back!  She continues to thrill!😁😎

Current AQI (Air Quality) readings:

Los Angeles 31

Santa Monica, CA  20

Chiang mai 87

Chumphon 71

Surprisingly, Thailand is briefly mentioned in this context.
