Where did you retire and why

If your retired ,I would like to know why your retired to your area where you live and why .

 

And I don't care if it's Houston in Georgia or the backwoods of Alaska or Alice Springs ( no one would retire to Alice Springs)

 

Why did you pick Hua Hin over Pattaya ?

Why did you pick Da Nang over Bangkok?

Why did you pick Cambodia or the Philippines 

Now obviously most UK residents pick Philippines because of their pension

 

Now it could be medical reasons ,you stay in Australia for free health care

 

Lifestyle,you enjoy the Opera so you need to live in Bangkok or Manila 

 

It could be financially,you live in the Nirun in Pattaya because you have nothing 

Why did you pick your area to permanent residence and why 

 

Just to add I'm exploring Vietnam as a retire option ,

Talking about HP sauce ,I noticed places like Cheap Charlie's in Pattaya don't have it on  the table anymore I had to ask for it !

I'm thinking if this generation are not into HP sauce ?

You have made me hungry but I love a bit of sausage in buttered bread with HP sauce ...yum !!

Brown sauce in Thailand is very expensive as you are no doubt aware.

 

I seethe when I see people slap half a bottle on their plate with their full English and then leave a big splodge when they've finished. 

 

It has to be brown sauce or English mustard on a sausage sandwich - none of that tomato muck.

Maybe that's why they have removed it from the tables?

Bbq sauce is another favourite of mine with breakfast,you never see that nowadays either

I read here once of a brit restaurant owner who kept getting his HP sauce stolen off of the table by low lifes.

 

Death penalty? Sure. I hearted the guy above who noted the wastrels who fill half a plate with it.

 

What are the pro's and cons of retiring in Thailand?

None whatsoever I'm afraid. Plenty of members on here though have lived there and will know. 

 

Others are very knowledgeable on tax matters and hopefully one will advise in due course.

Sure, people have been doing visa runs for years in Vietnam, but what's to stop immigration from denying entry at whim? Maybe it's a small risk but a risk nonetheless. I knew an English teacher in HCMC who always carried that in the back of his mind. Perhaps less a worry if one is not working?

 

During the p(l)andemic VN cracked down hard on revolving door foreigners, even shortening the cycle to 30-day visa runs. Now it seems to be business as usual with 90 days once again and seemingly automatic extensions. But being a Socialist (Communist?) country things often change overnight without warning.

 

It's impossible to open a bank account in VN without a Work Permit. There may well be agents in VN who can grease the right palms to get these things sorted.

 

Would be nice if VN introduces a retirement visa. It really is a lovely country, great food, cheap beer, gorgeous women and quite liveable.

Unfortunately we don't have expats in here from Vietnam 

Most say they are in Thailand but in reality are  in Mums basement in Alaska or Texas

Don't tell my mum.  She thinks I'm working online down there.  And my online friends think I'm a digital nomad. 

 

Just kidding. I've never been to Vietnam.  And my mum passed many years ago.

I certainly couldn’t stay here.   There is something about it that I can’t put my finger on….but it’s an uncomfortable feeling.  It’s not a user friendly country/city…it’s far more foreign than Thailand and there is an underlying sketchy vibe.  
 

I wouldn’t want to retire here personally (visa issues aside)
