Chaos ensued in central Pattaya after a car crash that left one vehicle overturned and traffic snarled. The incident, captured on CCTV, involved a white Toyota Vios and a gray Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, with bystanders witnessing the aftermath of what appeared to be a drunk-driving incident.

The incident occurred opposite Krungsri Bank before the Big C Extra intersection and left two damaged vehicles and debris scattered across the road. The white Toyota Vios, with license plate from Ang Thong, was on its roof and had suffered front-end damage. Its windshield was shattered, and the left headlight and bumper were crushed from the impact. Meanwhile, the gray Mitsubishi Pajero Sport SUV, bore significant damage on the right side, from the driver’s door to the wheel well.

A motorcycle taxi driver who witnessed the crash described the moments leading up to it. He recounted seeing the Mitsubishi SUV signaling to turn, when the Toyota Vios suddenly swerved across lanes, crashing directly into the SUV. The force of the collision caused the Vios to overturn. When the witness opened the car door to help, he was hit by the overpowering smell of alcohol, suggesting the driver was heavily intoxicated. In a state of shock, the Toyota driver quickly exited the vehicle and fled the scene. The driver of the Mitsubishi, a foreign national, was fortunately unharmed.

Police officers arrived shortly after to document the incident and gather evidence. Both vehicles were eventually removed from the road to clear the heavy traffic congestion. Law enforcement officials are now working to identify and locate the driver of the Toyota Vios to proceed with legal action.

One more data point.  No scooters, no fatalities.

A ton of steel, seatbelts and a roof.  Great safety features for those who can afford them.

Nail the car owner and if it was not him/her, then (s)he has to reveal the name of the person who drove the car. Then book the culprit for drunk driving and fleeing the scene; two times a juicy jail sentence would be appropriate.

The damage to the Mitsubishi is to be executed in a Mitsubishi workshop, payment by the culprit, if not possible by the Toyota owner and if no luck there then sell off the Toyota for spare parts which hopefully covers the Mitsubishi expense.

Until the local authorities have understood the above modus-operandi, nothing will ever change and Thailand will remain a banana republic!
