Just walked past a used car tent. December 2023 BYD Seal with 4000 ks. 45,000 baht suspension upgrades. Wrapped with  clear film and 45,000 baht carbon fiber accessories.

1,1 million baht. Even as a petrol head I am tempted. Thoughts?

Posted

would you have made these upgrades to your own car or not? if not, you're paying also for something you don't really want or need.

plus, you probably can’t check the quality or price of these upgrades ...

by the way, the byd seal has a special discount offer until the end of the month, up to 240,000 thb ...

The suspension upgrade isn't.  It's a downgrade, it makes it jittery at low to moderate speeds, test drive it and make sure you're happy.

I'm sure the model is a Performance as Thais believe the new spring and damper setup improves it floating at very high speeds.

I think the price is pretty good, the clear film is worth having, just make sure you know where to take it if something goes wrong, it probably has a warranty.

Chinese cars depreciate alarmingly. Up to 50% in the first year. Saw a BYD Seal advertised on Facebook Marketplace for 995K, don't know which version it was. I would guess the trade in value of one to be around 800K. It looks a bargain until you have to buy a new battery at around 7 years old. Check cost of battery!

Some ICE cars have a warranty of 3 years, what happens in the 9th year?  Some Mercedes engines cost $60,000

Estimates for how long EV batteries last are at least 200,000 miles. There are reports of EVs already achieving more than 300,000 miles on the original battery.

EV batteries are generally under warranty for 8 years or 100,000 miles, but new EV batteries are lasting much longer. Tesla claims its EV batteries should last up to 500,000 miles. Assuming a gas car would last for 200,000 miles, choosing an EV could be like getting two cars for the price of one.

I posted a few links below, I could post dozens more, but I think you get the point.

I suspect you think EV's catch fire more often than ICE cars and that Thailand doesn't have many Charging Stations too.

How much are Japanese engines?  60k or less?

Why reference Japanese engines?

Because they are less expensive than Mercedes.

You used the most expensive of the two engines when referencing changing out 100k batteries in a EV.

Your obviously trying to justify the 100k batteries to a Mercedes engine, more expensive of the two.

Huge difference between your 60k and mine.

His post said it is nearly $10,000 for new batteries, not $100,000 as you typed. That $10,000 is for the most expensive batteries.

OK so let's compare more mainstream ICE replacement engines

Rank Car Brand Engine Replacement Cost
1 Ford $8,000 - $15,000
2 Cadillac $6,000 - $12,000
3 BMW $5,000 - $10,000
4 Mercedes-Benz $5,000 - $10,000

They seem to fairly identical to new batteries wouldn't you say?

I ridiculed his post for 2 reasons, first that a battery or any device would fail the year after the warranty, and secondly to draw attention to the nonsense price of a new battery when EV batteries are expected to last the same or longer than an ICE and cost the same.

Ok, delete a 0.

Why no Japanese car reference?

Why did you originally quote 60k for Mercedes.

Well....

I didn't reference Italian cars, or French cars, or Russian cars, or Spanish cars, or American cars, or British cars.

Is there a reason you specifically wanted me to reference Japanese cars?

More common than the ones mentioned above.

Where did you get 60k from?

Regardless, I would never ever buy a EV.  Trump as President will ensure no one would be forced to if leftists are in charge.

This guy was quoted $55k 7 years ago for a C63 engine.

Close to around $55k,at least that's what I was quoted by the dealership when I bought my car. They warned me to take care of my engine or else it'll be that. Can't imagine the newer ones to be any cheaper.

Do you believe everyone gets electrocuted if an electric boat sinks?
Do you believe an EV needs charging every 15 minutes?

Trump believes both those things.

Why do Trumpists get so hot and bothered about EVs? Why so triggered about a car you'll never buy?

The idea of mandating EV is alarming.  And you think Trump is the dictator.

I’m keeping my gas stove too

And also the fact that Space X makes a few dollars from NASA as a government contractor.

There are fields in China full of unwanted first generation electric cars. Nobody wants em, worthless. Battery technology keeps progressing at such a rate the cars become obsolete. Am I going to buy a new Chinese electric car?
