The guy is slumming around Southeast Asia when he should be back home with a job. If you wanna spend your time, feeling bad for people who are in unfortunate situations, then you can worry about all the millions of people whose lives have been recently destroyed by war in the Middle East. That's what I would call bad luck. Not this guy who isn't even trying to better himself. Well put. I tried to listen to this video but he reminded me of Trump - he didn't seem to finish a sentence and I was unclear as to how, where or when all his troubles began, continued at and because of what? I fell asleep and stirred after he finished. I've been living here in Thailand for 20 years. Prior to that I backpacked throughout Asia and I was in my 50s and early 60s. It was up to me to safeguard my travel, visa, money, plans, etc., and I didn't go whining on FB or anywhere else, simply because it didn't exist at that time. Sorry to say that this guy is a loser and needs to take a long hard look at himself and get back home to sort himself out. He never mentioned family, but they should be his first contact. 1 1 2

rattlesnake Posted November 13 Posted November 13 From his YouTube description: My name is Scotty Asher, known on the Internet as "Scotty Bear," a nickname given to me by a dear friend. Currently experiencing homelessness in the US from the High cost of rent, I decided to embark on an adventure and purchased a one-way ticket to South East Asia. Now, I'm drifting around the continent, trying to escape my past while making a living freelancing and living as frugally as possible. By day, I'm an internet marketer and artist, sharing my nomad journey and experiences through my YouTube channel. Join me as I navigate the highs and lows of life on the road, chasing dreams, and finding myself in the most unexpected places on earth. So he's an idealist. Most idealists are in their 20s but he is in his 40s. If people were to give him money, say $2000, would he use it to go back to the US and land back on his feet? No, he would spend it here and make a video about it. 1 1

He's just a grifter. Even with no skills he could go home and get a job. I work in the airline biz on the ramp. Terrible money but easy, if a little physical. Somehow all the kids that work for me can afford to live in an apartment, own a car, feed themselves. I don't believe a single one of them lives in a cardboard box under a freeway overpass in fear for their life! Maybe he wouldn't be able to afford to live in Manhattan or San Francisco, but there are a thousand more cities where he could work and live a decent life 'if' he wanted to work Edited November 13 by GinBoy2 2 1 1

Are you old enough to remember Kwai Chang Caine from the 70's Kung Fu series? A wandering monk who got into adventures. He was broke also but always found his way. Maybe this is who he is trying to emulate. A lot of us grew up on this stuff and he would be in that age bracket. 2 1

It's quite easy for even the homeless to find work in the US. I think the challenge is: Can your income, whatever your job (let's say menial work / day labour) cover your living expenses, no matter how basic you're living? I know back in the 70s-early 2000s, even a basic low paying job would cover one's basic necessities like shelter, food, transport (public) and basic clothing. That's another reason why there hasn't been any great art (e.g. music) produced since the 1990s: no one in the USA can afford to be an artist anymore. 1

You people are actors and not sincere You don't get it. People lose their minds when they enter an airport. I've had drunks at 6am, but apparently it's 5pm somewhere in the world. I've been spat at when someone shows up after the boarding is complete and doors are closed Verbal tirades are par for the course And of course we're in the middle of a blizzard planes can't land and you have a spittle spewing woman screaming at you saying she has to be in Chicago by 2pm for her daughters wedding. Well you know what, it's February, plan to travel a couple of days ahead, cos surprise surprise planes don't land or take off when a runway is covered in snow My favorite was the crazy preacher who barged past the gate agent through the security door onto the ramp, plane was pushing, because he had a sermon to preach that night in TX. He ended up in jail for the night! Yeah, people are idiots in airport. Just read terms of carriage when you book the ticket and you'll be fine. But don't blame the person checking you in if you don't follow the conditions. At check in very little they can do the override the software Edited November 14 by GinBoy2 1 1 1 1 1 1
simon43 Posted November 14 Posted November 14 I had a look at his website. He obviously has some skills in creating websites, social marketing etc. But his fees are crazy!! With competition from low-cost countries (India, Philippines etc), he needs to divide his fees by a factor of 10....

Probably just earning enough from them to cover low cost flights to circulate around various countries to avoid being chucked out for staying in one place too long and pay for bottom dollar accommodation and dining. By sounds of it, he's the author of his own misfortune if he doesn't want to pay his way properly i.e. work in farangland in your chosen career during your prime earning years, visiting Asia when you can with the goal of retiring there in a financially sound position in your 50s or early 60s. Or, move to Asia at a younger age but on the proviso you've got good enough skills to develop a proper career or your own business, online or otherwise, which leaves you in a similar position and not without 2 pennies to rub together come your late 40s. Everyone's had misfortunes in life, medical, personal or otherwise. I've had my share. It's how you respond that counts and being realistic as well. This guy has no real life plan and will be screwed in the not-to-distant future. He just seems oblivious or not bothered about it. There was a case on here some time back about a UK guy, a bit older than this one, who'd run out of luck in Asia after years overseas and had to go home and throw himself on the mercy of social services. Wasn't a pretty picture. From what I can tell, the US safety net is somewhat less than the UK so he's potentially in a dire position if there's no family or friends to fall back on. I stopped watching the vid when he made the laughable comment (at 04:07) "I found an opening in my schedule"! Priceless. Rocks up at his destination (I'm guessing Phils) and only has about USD 10-12 but still buys a coffee at the airport. I guess then he walked into town? His web site makes clear he's all about digital biz and monetising his online activities. His Channel:
