When she was about 10, she went to work far away from her village with her father and his new wife. Not long after that she run away, alone, to see some other relative about 1000km away from where she was. There she worked in a coffee shop until she was 16. And then her older stepsister decided it's time to bring her to Pattaya. When I met her and asked her to live with me, she was happy to go with me to Bangkok far away from the family. I promised her to take care of her and that is what I did and do. And all that happened many years ago. We are still together and mostly happy. Unfraternally, I saw too many daughters with too little care from the family. Sometimes the family has no money, which is obviously a problem. But there are also too many parents who think working all day and making lots of money will somehow make the kids happy. It doesn't. I've never met a teenager yet that I wanted to come live with me. But that's just me. 4

How many teenagers would do that if they would feel comfortable at home? Most leave home and end up in places like Pattaya for materialistic reasons. They see friends with the latest iPhones, AirPods, make up, money in their purse. Etc. The friends talk about. dancing and partying every night and the prospects of meeting a well to do foreigner. I was once very friendly with a Thai girl up north and driving from the main city to her village we would pass modest to elaborate homes and she would say, “so and so owns that house and land, she met a guy when she worked in a bar and he bought the house and land for her. My friend could nominate where they were working Pattaya, Bangkok, Phuket etc. 4 1

A mother looking out for her wayward teenage kid! 2 months working at a bar on soi bukkao... she is not wayward anymore and instead a hardworking bar girl. The owner knowingly accepted her to work there at that age and should be imprisoned. But I think the bright lights and music and drinks and easy fast money will be forever tarnished in her future. 1

You see this it exactly right. And when posters start saying there is no deterrent and people should be fined etc, the above statement is exactly where all the............ ' fines ' end up. There isn't a massive clean-up and everyone starts obeying the law, it's just the Police find another cash stream.

Going to the local market for grocery shopping. Cooking breakfast after daily exercise. Quietly enjoying Thai cultures through the communication with the locals. My one is different! And maybe you are just too old for a teenager. 😉 Ok, seriously, how many teenagers work from the age of 12 and more or less have to support themselves and take care of themselves? Not too many. The fact that my gf was without parental supervision since that age made her not the average teenager. In a way this situation made her stronger. But on the other hand, she missed a lot of what children and teenagers normally learn from their parents at that age. It's complicated.
