A fire broke out at a chemical storage warehouse near Wasana Market in Krathum Baen District, Samut Sakhon, during the afternoon of November 15. The blaze caused extensive damage and raised concerns about potential chemical hazards in the area.

The fire, which began around 13:00 occurred at the premises of Water Specialist Supply Co., Ltd., a chemical importer and distributor located in Khrai Subdistrict. Flames quickly spread throughout the facility, producing thick plumes of smoke visible from afar and sparking fears of hazardous chemical exposure in nearby communities.

Local authorities and emergency services responded swiftly, deploying multiple fire engines to the scene. Firefighters worked to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading further. Explosions were reported from within the facility, and the strong smell of chemicals added to the urgency of the situation.

To ensure public safety, authorities cordoned off the area, restricting access to unauthorised personnel. A parked delivery truck within the warehouse was also destroyed by the fire.

Fire crews battled the flames throughout the afternoon, prioritising containment to mitigate risks of escalation. Rescue volunteers and firefighters exercised extreme caution due to the hazardous nature of the chemicals stored at the site. The fire was finally extinguished during the early evening, with crews standing by incase of any flare ups.

The warehouse reportedly housed approximately 40 large tanks of chlorine, plus other chemicals at the time of the incident. The chlorine is primarily used for water treatment and disinfection, making its containment a priority.

The factory manager, Ms. Saijai Chaisen, confirmed that 17 office workers were present during the incident, while another 11 workers were out delivering goods. All employees were evacuated safely.

One firefighter sustained injuries while operating in the challenging conditions inside the facility and was transported to Vichaiyut Hospital. He is now in stable condition and under medical care.

Local authorities, led by Mr. Woranat Noorot, Deputy Governor of Samut Sakhon Province, have begun assessing the impact on nearby communities. Face masks were distributed to residents as a precaution, and health officials from Krathum Baen Hospital and other centres are monitoring potential symptoms of chemical exposure.

The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation. Police and forensic experts will examine the site to determine the source of the blaze and assess the damages incurred.

In response, the Samut Sakhon Provincial Government has instructed local administrative organisations to survey chemical storage facilities in the area. This proactive measure aims to develop strategies to prevent similar incidents in the future.
