A gain of a 100.000 km2 in over two and a half years. I'm not sure that's correct. In the Donbas region the gain is having pushed the line about 30 kms to the West. That's not really impressive, is it. And please take into account the region of Kursk, lost to the Ukrainians.

And consider the 100.000 to 200.000 Russian soldiers lost, the thousands of tanks and artillery pieces, the Black Sea naval fleet decimated, etc etc. North Korean soldiers needed. And for what. In over two and a half years.

 

Not exactly impressive. More a sign of the rampant corruption and incompetence in the Russian army.

 

That doesn't mean they can't win of course. And, win what? What was the goal?

The Ukraines are not allowed to repay Russia with the same violence the Russians execute in Ukraine, where they are restricted to minor revenge attacks given green light by the westerns who give them weapons. 

 

I tend to agree this war should never have started, knowing Putin and russias will to continue this war if you look back on other wars they had, or intervened like in Georgia. So many lives could have been spared for å little piece of land, and a bit of structural changes in the Ukraine government, but at once they said a, b was a long delay, and also c d and the whole alphabet which was necessary to win this war from the beginning. But again, Ukraine is still Ukraine, with many internal issues, and there are no good solutions here at all. Now we have to wait for Donald to make a few phone calls, and agree with the bad timing of first giving the green light for missiles now, and not before.

Ok, a war of attrition. A very long war of attrition. I get that, I got it already.

The whole Donbas region is about 53.000 km2. So your arithmetic seems to be way off. Don't include Crimes, don't include the Donbas as illegally occupied since 2014. Only the gains since February 2022.

Who's trivializing war. As I have repeatedly said this is a protracted war of attrition. Civilians are being killed as are troops. This happens in wars like it or not. What you continue to avoid is that all these lives lost could have been spared. It was obvious what Putin was up to in 2022 and there's no way the US did not know.

Ukraine had a paramilitary unit called the 'Azov' brigade that the US State department proscribed as a 'terrorist' organisation and were banned from using any US supplied weapons after their behaviour against civilians in the areas of the Ukraine with large numbers of Russian and Russian speaking populace. 

These restrictions were lifted in 2024 this unit is now part of the Ukrainian armed forces.

Zelensky and Putin had a pre 2022 agreement including neutrality and autonomy in a document called the Minsk Accords.  Russia, Germany, France and the UK had signed it.  Biden (Now president) told the scandal ridden UK Prime Minister to go to Kiev and tell Zelensky not to sign, EU and NATO would support him. 

Months later Johson resigned after half his government resigned over his lies, deceptions to the House of Commons

Shortly after Boris had visited, Zelensky withdrew from the agreement Russia having stated this were a red line attacked, a war many folk could see coming for the past 8 years now happened.

Putin wanted to join NATO showing that after the dissolution of the Warsaw Pact that NATO should evolve into a type of EU where armed forces could reduce lowering tension

 

Worked with Ukrainians and Russians when working offshore, not much between them, the problem is money and power.

The ordinary guys like those guys I worked with never really get the spoils, but, are expected to shed their blood so the instigators get their spoils.

 

2nd Iraq war and the fall of Saddam, who benefitted, not the average Iraqi or the region, who benefitted.

Libya and the deposing of Gaddafi did his removal usher in stability for the region and prosperity, who benefitted.

Departure from Afghanistan following the loss of thousands of sons and fathers, when Russia left the regime they left lasted 8 years........  The Biden installed regime were it 8 hours or minutes.  Who benefitted. 

 

Any country that joins NATO has to standardise their armed forces with NATO compatible equipment.  Who benefits??
