Man Severely Injured Using Hand-held Cutter in Sri Racha

A 38-year-old man was rushed to the hospital in serious condition after his arm was severely cut by a hand-held cutter while working outside his residence in Sri Racha District.

 

The incident occurred at an unnumbered apartment in Moo 8, Surasak Subdistrict. Rescue personnel from the Sawang Prateep Foundation responded to the distress call, finding Mr. Suriya Netkan with a deep laceration on his right arm, exposing the bone. First aid was administered on-site before he was urgently transported to Phyathai Hospital for further medical treatment.

 

Neighbours reported hearing cries for help and rushed to the scene. One witness described finding Mr. Suriya bleeding profusely while working on a table outside his home. "I was shocked and didn't know what to do at first. I quickly called the rescue team and used cloth to stop the bleeding," a neighbour recounted.

 

Another resident, Mrs. Somphit Noiprom, 56, who was in her backyard at the time, said, "I heard the shouts and came running. He was covered in blood, and I was so shaken I could barely make the call to the rescue team. He often works outside his room, but I'm not sure how this happened."

 

Rescue personnel quickly stabilised Mr. Suriya and transported him to the hospital. Doctors are now treating him for the severe injury, and his condition remains under close observation.

Wood cutting blade for angle grinders are a thing.

I am 80 and I used mine this morning with a grinding disc (and the safety guard on) to cut a breeze block in half.

 

It did the job but it was hard work.

 

Mine also has a handle and I held the handle and the grinder in both hands.

 

Like most electrical tools it is perfectly safe when it is used properly. That is what safety guards and handles are for. NOT for one handed use.

Yes. Angle grinders are supplied with safety guards but, it seems, Thai users do not like them since they interfere with their need to use the cutting blade at any angle. They are not intended to use circular saw blades and the instructions warn against this but.....TIT.

The teeth on that example are coarse and will cause the machine to 'kick' in use increasing the risk of injury.

It is a sad fact that Thailand produces various blades to fit 4" angle grinders that are not actually meant for angle grinders, usually meaning the guards are removed to facilitate this. Even more shocking when you look around on a building site, some of the labourers small children sitting among unguarded and plugged in power tools of various sorts!!
