No police will be involved,   I know plenty of people with an address in the UK that they use for such purposes, many have died and took their "secret" to the grave with them.        not so stupid after all eh?  I also know a few saintly types who fessed up to the DWP on day 1 and suffered for the rest of their lives on a pension of £65 per week...

                 So who are the sharpest then ?

I still think that this is why it will fall apart - the idea of paying tax on your imported savings in another country is a killer. It will kill off people moving here and will destroy investment in the housing market - imagine paying 25% tax on sending money to buy a house and losing millions of baht - because THAT is what this law would do

It's going to get that tied up with double taxation agreements the bureaucrats will say the hell with it. Particularly when it is pension incomes being transferred.

 

I could make any pen-pusher's life miserable by transferring post-2024 income up to the tax-free limit, then from pre-2024 savings, all documented.

 

However, I don't see any need to do so until Immigration starts wanting to see tax returns.

Hi, I also received this E-mail. I went to K- bank Jomtien and they put the information from Att 1 in computer (Att 2 and 3 only for US people) and copied my passport and bankbook.

Everything solved in 5 min.

I will wait to see how and if I'm affected when the time comes.  Until it does come it can be anyone's guess what will occur. Even the so-called tax pros have no idea exactly what may or may not occur.

Back in 2011 Chiang Mai immigration required me to provide a copy of my 1040 tax return to get an extension approval based on marriage. 

 

During that time an affidavit using the US Embassy assistance was enough for income verification but that single time for me they also requested my a copy of my 1040...

Let me add.... a reputable company who is knowledgeable with internet security will generate a secured message center within their website and use that place to communicate as well as provide forms.

 

Then they would give you a quick email or PM telling you to check the secure message location.

 

Opening and downloading attachments can be dangerous.

I'm Australian, not married.

 

I have never been asked by any Thai official for a copy of my Australian tax returns.

I went to my Kasikorn bank at Lotus, Mittrapharp, Khon Kaen.  The girl took my form, typed my answers into her computer,  printed the form out and I signed it.  10 minutes max.  I had provided a signed copy of my passport ID page.  No copy of bank book needed.

It just shows how requirements vary by branch, the staff in Chiang Rai took a single page copy of my passport and bank book together.

That said, surely MOST people living in Thailand have a relative or friend who will provide an accommodation address.

 

Some UK financial institutions are now monitoring the IP address used to make transactions. My online brokers called me to ask why I was doing transactions on my account while located in Thailand. They reminded me that the account is for UK residents only. I had to explain I am resident in the UK but spend 4-5 months a year in Thailand. They also said that using a VPN raised a warning on their system.

Australian here, No email for me "yet". My K Bank Account was opened 14 years ago.

 

Last year in July 23, I changed my phone so had to go into the branch and get the app setup. During this visit I had to sign other papers, which I promptly did in front of the lady. Maybe this form was completed then, not sure. Hopefully I don't get the email as I won't be back for quite a few months. I am not a tax resident of Thailand, everything is taxed in Australia and I don't stay more than 179 days.

Yes, very true. I have signed the disclaimer forms at immigration despite being unable to read the text. But that's part of a specific procedure that's completed while you wait. A blank tax form that needs to be completed and sent to head office by other staff after you've left the bank doesn't have the same sense of being completed.

 

If I was dealing with KB on this issue, I would still submit via email in addition to letting branch staff complete things for me, just in case someone stuffs up.

 

And I wouldn't rush either. I think too many are reading too much into the date that KB says it needs to be completed by. Since KB seem to be the only bank chasing up customers at this time, I see this as an internal deadline rather than an international compliance deadline.

People are filling the forms out differently. Staff giving different advice. If you don't have a Thai TIN, but you are staying here more than 180 days, you don't have to check that you have tax residency in another country and give NI number for example. 

You can probably write 'no income' and 'savings prior to 2024'

I also have a new passport, which K-Bank doesn't know. I guess, I will have to wait with the form till I travel to Thailand again in a year, or two.
