You mean around a 6% HIV positive rate from overall testing?

Right, PrEP people will all remain HIV negative, regardless of sexual behavior, as long as they maintain consistent use of the medication.

Interesting. Didn’t realize they make their research data public. That’s very useful.

Whatever. It’s a risk. Discount the risk to whatever degree you want to if it makes you feel better. Even a 5% risk is still a risk. But assuming that wearing a condom makes herpes transmission risk free is still Darwinism.

https://www.plannedparenthood.org/learn/stds-hiv-safer-sex/herpes

From the above link:

Herpes is easily spread from skin-to-skin contact with someone who has the virus. You can get it when your genitals and/or mouth touch their genitals and/or mouth — usually during oral, anal, and vaginal sex.

Herpes can be passed even if the penis or tongue doesn’t go all the way in the vagina, anus, or mouth. You don’t have to cum to spread herpes. All it takes is some quick skin-to-skin touching. You can also get herpes from kissing someone who has oral herpes.

The skin on your genitals, mouth, and eyes can be infected easily. Other areas of skin may get infected if there’s a way for the herpes virus to get in, like through a cut, burn, rash, or other sores. You don’t have to have sex to get herpes. Sometimes herpes can be passed in non-sexual ways, like if a parent with a cold sore gives you a peck on the lips. Most people with oral herpes got it when they were kids.  A mother can pass genital herpes to a baby during vaginal childbirth, but that’s pretty rare.

You can spread herpes to other parts of your body if you touch a herpes sore and then touch your mouth, genitals, or eyes without washing your hands first. You can also pass herpes to someone else this way.

Herpes is most contagious when sores are open and wet, because fluid from herpes blisters easily spreads the virus. But herpes can also “shed” and get passed to others when there are no sores and your skin looks totally normal.

Most people get herpes from someone who doesn’t have any sores. It may live in your body for years without causing any symptoms, so it’s really hard to know for sure when and how you got it. That’s why so many people have herpes — it’s a pretty sneaky infection.

Agreed. But protection can come in many forms. Not just condoms.

So I've just been lucky then, being herpes-free? I don't think so.

Protection in the form of antibiotics and antivirals assumes the target cannot adapt. IIRC there is evidence of anti-biotic resistant strains of syphilis and gonorrhea in Laos and Cambodia.

Apart from which, said medications screw up gut flora and the immune system.

Nice to see infection rates are seemingly declining. But I also assume it’s an up-and-down thing. I also think a lot of the sex workers just get tested by small neighborhood clinics, if at all. So the majority of the people going to the Red Cross to get tested could just be from the general population. Quite a few tourists too I think.

Thai population is even HIV positive. That’s quite low.

I would ask for proof of that. I'm guessing it's 3.5% general population and 5-7% in the risk group of sexworkers (punters)

You're also looking at this incorrectly. It's not about 1% of the total population. Rather, prostitution is quite a high risk group for HIV one might think.

I don't think those drugs are widely studied. Seems pretty heavy duty to live on (like a HIV+ person). Can't be good for the body. O could see this for someone going thru an epic middle age crisis, but living on medicine for the sake of random sex seems both shallow and dangerous.

You haven’t had many partners in your life. Probably plays a big role.

I looked into that a while ago. The incidence is very low. And when there are drug resistant strains, it doesn’t mean that the person never gets rid of the infection. It just means that it takes longer and more drugs to knock it out.

The number of people out there who are walking around with a bacterial STI that they haven’t been able to treat and kill with use of antibiotics (over a long enough period of treatment) is probably a small fraction of one percent, or less.

Sorry, I’m not gonna bother formulating a reply to this. Everything that you’ve written above is conjecture and backed up by nothing. I’m not saying you’re wrong, but until I see some factual basis for what you’ve written then I see no point in discussing any of it. But you can go on making your own assumptions based on whatever anecdotal reasoning you feel comfortable with.

The notion of unprotected anal sex while using PrEP still concerns me, but I guess that’s what it is designed for.

I'll tell you upfront I have no idea, but I don't think these drugs were "designed" to mitigate HIV. I'm guessing scientists stumbled on new classes of antibiotics that appear to hold HIV at bay. The difference is HIV is not 'cured' and science doesn't have it dialed in. Luck. Fortunate for those with HIV. These medicines should not just be taken like a handful of amoxicillin.

Antiretroviral drugs are not antibiotics. These days, the standard treatment regimen for managing HIV involves a three-drug cocktail of antiretroviral medications, often combined into a single pill. This treatment is highly effective at reducing the viral load of someone living with HIV to undetectable levels.

For prevention, the drug regimen used for PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) also consists of a single pill, but it includes only two of the three antiretroviral drugs typically used to treat an existing HIV infection.

While effective, these drugs can strain the liver and kidneys, and some may reduce bone density or negatively impact lipid profiles. As a result, individuals taking antiretroviral medications are closely monitored with regular kidney and liver function tests to detect potential side effects. However, most people tolerate these drugs well without significant issues.

In comparison, taking amoxicillin regularly could be even more harmful and dangerous than antiretroviral drugs.

Herpes is treatable for symptoms. It is incurable.

Once one has acquired herpes, they have it for life.

Do you feel lucky?

Did you get your current girlfriend tested before you had unprotected sex?

Or did you just feel lucky?

Yes, I've been there. It's probably around 70% men and I would say around 2/3 to 3/4 of them do look gay. Also a fair number of transsexuals go there. A number of the staff are also gay and transsexual.

In any event, people are going there for various types of testing and treatments. According to the main page of their website, they probably only have a few thousand people on PrEP in total I'm guessing. Their data shows that around 7000 people have come in so far this year in total for PrEP. But since PrEP users probably go in there 3 to 4 times per year to get blood work and pick up medicine (and get counted each time), then they may only have around 2000 people net on PrEP. That's an extremely low number compared to the number of people who are at risk of getting HIV.

Perhaps there are a lot of people that do know about the benefits of PrEP but don't go take the drugs for various reasons. Cost, fear, laziness, aversion to medicine, out of sight out of mind, can't be arsed, head in the sand mentality, i'll be born again anyway, etc.

Can do. But I'm already committed to head over to Nana to bump uglies with a pair of slappers at around 10. Can you wait until I've already pushed a nut out until I cum by?

They probably don't have sex. Too dangerous. Too many diseases out there. Lots of strains of untreatable STIs. But at least they don't have to worry about herpes because condoms always prevent that.

I feel very pleased that I do not use prostitutes .

So pleased that I don't have to pay them money, dodge diseases , get condoms or not, visit hospitals for check ups , slurp on other guys sperm as you are down there licking .

Very pleased that I have no interest in prostitution
