I called me Mom last night and looked at my phone log. Other than three business calls, I havent spoken to a human being other than me Mum for 6 months.

But I have WeChat, Telegram, Skype, Google Voice, Signal, Line, Whats App, and Meta just bursting with messages. Plus the AIS and spam messages in Thai to me Thai number. the Smart Corp dont forget to top up and spin the wheel ones to me Cambodia number, and of course, the begging Democrat party messages to me US number, please give us money, please..

I cant say it bothers me, since talking on the phone can interfere with daily life. Try holding a cell phone to your ear while you are stir frying. Do you put the phone down when youre ripping out last nights digested double portion of SomTam Puu?

But, am I the only one who no longer talks on the phone??

Never big on talking on the phone, and always had an answering machine.   Only time I answered the phone, is if it was on business line.

Never answer the phone, unless it's the wife, daughter, or I know something is getting delivered that day.

Very rarely, for some business purpose.

I don't like phones or talking on phones. That's 'cause, during my early years, whenever the phone rang, Dad would exclaim loudly, "Oh LORD! Who could THAT be?" But as a teenager I kept the line well engaged talking to girls.

I resisted getting a smartphone for the longest time before I finally succumbed. Necessary evil. I have all the chat programs on my PC that I need, and I can use the web interfaces.

Texting sucks.

I can stir fry with a speaker phone.

When I’m taking a dump and video chatting with a girl I just set my iPad on the sink with the camera pointed at the ceiling…..ya know….because I’m respectful.

Talk..  with video to my son at least 5x a week,     sister 1x a week / with video

a couple of buddies back in the US a voice call or video every couple of weeks,,

I keep a US based # with Magic Jack ( works out to less than $30 for the year ,,  unlimited US call time ) and keeps me registered with my US bank

and video calls are google meet.    which costs nothing other than your standard phone bill

all calls are  between 1am and 4am Thai time

other than that the ringer volume on the phone is always off........

By phone I am going to assume you mean an actual phone call using a number,

So as a direct connection call without using an app, I have had to use it approximately 5 times this year, of which all the calls were to a call center of some type.

For every day communication with friends or those I want to be friend with I mostly use Line and Messenger. And both have VOIP ability so while I have talked to people it was thru an App on my phone.

It is easier and quicker to send a text message. Usually when on the phone the conversations tend to become long and drawn out.

I never use Speaker Phones because of obscenity laws and public lewdness

If you are writing about the cell phone, to be technically correct, a cellular phone is not really a "telephone".   It is radio communications piece of hardware and I guess with the abilities to function as a computer.

When used to make a telephone call, the device communicates with a base station (cellular tower) which interconnects you call into the local telephone system.

As much as I don't like it sometimes, it really is a neat device.

Only use the "smart phone" to make telephone calls or SMS. I know what my family and friends look like so do not need to look at them while talking.

Oh and I forgot. It's great for reading my e-books on. But phone calls? Na!
