Border policy seems to be "Don't look, don't see."

Apprehensions don't necessarily correlate to crossings, especially if 'crackdowns' in specific areas are publicized, giving illegals a heads up to illegally invade at less personed border areas.

"A good start would be to reduce demand for illegal drugs "

The only way to do that is change the legal status of the drugs.

Otherwise it's like legislation to forbid rain on weekends and holidays, ain't gonna work.

And before anyone jumps to conclusions my only mood enhancing drug is caffeine; if it was made illegal

I would still try and get it.

I was specifically referring to opioids which killed over 80,000 people in the US last year. As I understand opioids primarily kill the less well off in the US. Whilst it seems helping out the less well off in the US goes against the grain the economic and societal damage of hard drug abuse must be significant. EU has less than 10% illegal drug deaths than the US., surely there are lessons to be learnt.

I suggest you look at what General Mark Milley said about it, before posting a lie.

Trump never got to fire him. Instead, he repeatedly denigrated Milley on Truth Social.

It's a familiar pattern, Trump appointing someone, only to claim the appointee was defective afterwards. Remarkable how poor a judge of character he repeatedly has been.

Just like your pattern of attacking posters who you disagree with, instead of addressing the facts.

So that's why Milley hates Trump and lies about him? He should have been court marshaled.

In any event, you claimed, "Trump wanted to attack Iran to bolster his electoral chances in 2019..." .

So why didn't he?

And do you have anything that supports your false claim?

You seem to want it both ways - false claim, or why didn't Trump attack Iran? Maybe because he was not sure the order would be obeyed. He is a coward at heart, like all bullies.

The correct spelling is court martialed. Your ignorance of basic English is embarrassing.

So can the Cartels.

She is paid off quite well.

She is just a mouthpiece for the out going president, her mentor.  Now that the cartels can put the public elected judges in their pocket. Should be easy sailing for them.  The outgoing president was a real piece of work.

"A good start would be to reduce demand for illegal drugs "

No matter what drug is in question, how can demand be reduced?

Draconian penalties? That has been tried in the US and result has been a failure.

I am not trying to give you a hard time, but what ideas exist for reducing demand for drugs?

Anything new besides threat of punishment which doesn't seem to work?

Don't know, I'm not a drug addiction expert. Surely out of a population of 330 million plus, in addition to other countries input there is sufficient knowledge to commence targeted campaigns, plus addressing over subscription by the medical profession in the US. Many years ago I had an illegal drug addition, I didn't need countless counselling sessions, just woke up one day after an overdose and a nurse said to me do you want to die - so I never used again from my own will, no rehab etc etc. IMO opinion addiction is a state of mind and the only person who can stop the use is oneself - a lot of BS and hot air and god knows how much money is wasted

While you’re criticizing other’s English try policing some of your own lefties to keep everything fair and balanced.

Forty years ago I had a young Mexican worker from Michoacan who explained to me about corruption in Mexico from the Catholic Church to all levels of government.  The situation has gotten much worse with cartels running the country.  His home province is now controlled by the Sinaloa Cartel.  Now they are selling something more deadly than snake oil.

And armed and supplied by the USA. Why does the USA allow all those weapons to  flow into Mexico?

The cartels would not have the wealth and power that they do if  the USA was not supplying the money to do so. The two most common drugs imported into the USA are marijuana and methamphetamine.  No one is forcing Americans to gobble down the meth or to smoke the cannabis. Americans  find it easier to blame Mexico, when the real problem is the moral rot and hypocrisy of the American people.

While mature adults should know better, what about kids?  https://www.dea.gov/press-release/2022/08/30/dea-warns-brightly-colored-fentanyl-used-target-young-americans

And it is not just fentanyl laced pills, but candy and other edible items.

The cartels are heartless demons that target anyone, Mexicans and Americans alike.

the link doesn't work. but having gone through heyday of ecstasy in the 90's/00's and all the tabloid press <deleted>,  i'm highly skeptical of reports like that.

from a users point of view it was fearmongering to get public outrage.

Sorry about the link.  It was a warning from the DEA about colorful fentanyl laced pills for sale.  One of my friends told me they were being sold, some for free, to kids in his neighborhood.  Local police confirmed this.  Fentanyl is nothing to mess with.  Just handling the drug can cause severe reactions.  This is not fearmongering, believe me. Both of my tenants are rehab counselors and say fentanyl is some bad stuff.
