Flash Floods Hit Khok Pho: Soldiers Evacuate 500 Students Stranded in School
Picture from responders. Continuous heavy rainfall in Pattani Province caused flash floods in several areas, with Khok Pho District among the hardest hit. Roads were submerged, and water from nearby mountains inundated homes, forcing residents to evacuate and secure their belongings in safer locations. The floods severely impacted Piriyanawin School, located in Ban Khlong Hin Witthaya, Pak Lo Subdistrict, Khok Pho District. Torrential water swept into the school late afternoon, leaving over 500 students stranded as floodwaters rose to a height of 1 metre, making it impossible for them to leave . In response, Colonel Poramet Sanupong, Commander of the 43rd Ranger Task Force, dispatched a rescue team of 30 soldiers equipped with rubber boats and six-wheel trucks to assist the stranded students. The soldiers evacuated the students from the second-floor classrooms and dormitories and transported them to Wat Thanaphimuk School in Pak Lo, where they were temporarily sheltered for their safety. The flooding also affected major routes, including the Na Khet–Makrut Road near the Sai Khao mountain range. Torrents of water from the mountains flowed down suddenly, inundating roads and flooding the entrance and premises of Khok Pho Hospital. Authorities continue to monitor the situation and provide assistance to affected residents. -- 2024-11-29 -

Causes of High Electricity Bills in Thai Apartments
Just my take on this having owned and rented out condos in Thailand for 20+ years . When renting check type and age of air con and if you are paying MEA or PEA rates (depending on the region/;area) or owner or juristic . If the owner allows you can use their apps and pay or as I allowed my tenants to take their pea slips to pay. Older aircons can still be fairly efficient if serviced but obviously more power hungry than your latest of course but do not discount them totally , perhaps the rent is adjusted accordingly for you to use an old style and pay a bit more electricity than rent ? Some pretty hefty York aircons cooling 100sqm is better than trying to get a 9600 inverter to do the same as I have found in one place I went to buy. They got a modern cheap air con from Big C but did not understand what they were trying to cool with it . Size matters! Haha sorry should not laugh at my own jokes. Importantly use a fan to circulate that nice cold air and when sleeping do not use that continental quite you brought from the UK or similar with a tog 13 ... Yep I had a tenant who said he could get cold enough at night ... I explained why .. his bills went down when he realized!! Happy meter readings. -

Pattaya Cracks Down on Foreign Criminals to Boost Tourist Confidence
Picture courtesy: Siam Rath Authorities in Pattaya have launched an intensive operation to crack down on crimes involving foreign nationals in the area. This move aims to boost tourist confidence ahead of the Pattaya International Fireworks Festival. The operation, named "Operation Clean-Sweep", is led by Pol Lt Gen Yingyot Thepchamnong, acting Commissioner of Region 2 Police. It addresses the growing concerns about international crimes and illegal activities by foreigners that have recently plagued local media narratives. These include illegal labour and cross-border crimes which have become more prevalent and violent. Picture courtesy: Siam Rath Collaborating with local law enforcement, immigration officials, and public health authorities, the operation successfully led to several arrests. These include: 1. Illegal Work and Fraudulent Activities: 17 Chinese nationals were caught for running an illegal loan business with a turnover of around 392 million baht. 2. Unauthorised Herbal Product Manufacturing: Three illegal shops were shut down, resulting in 11 arrests, including seven foreign workers. Authorities seized 27 misleadingly marketed herbal products. 3. Working Without Proper Permits: 109 foreigners were found working beyond their visas' limitations. 4. Illegal Entry and Overstays: Officials apprehended 469 individuals for entering the country illegally and 33 for overstaying their visas. 5. Failure to Report Alien Residences: A total of 249 offences were reported under this law. 6. Illegal Possession of Firearms: 42 cases were documented, with 23 firearms seized. 7. Drug Offences: Nine individuals were arrested with large quantities of methamphetamine and ice. 8. Public Disturbance: 33 motorcycles were confiscated and two reckless driving incidents were addressed, involving Kuwaiti nationals. 9. Vagrancy and Begging Issues: Authorities dealt with 14 vagrants and 33 beggars, finding seven under influence of drugs. Picture courtesy: Siam Rath This robust initiative marks the beginning of targeted preventative measures along with aggressive actions against crimes impacting tourist safety in Pattaya. It aligns with the national police's vision of maintaining transparency and integrity in law enforcement, promoting confidence both domestically and internationally, reported Siam Rath.
