Canadian Tourist Dies After Slipping on Stairs at a Jomtien Beach Resort
Picture from responders. A Canadian tourist lost his life after slipping on a staircase and hitting his head on a statue at a resort on Jomtien Beach, Chonburi. Police Lieutenant Colonel Phuttarak Sornkamhan of Pattaya City Police Station received a report on the early evening of December 4 about the fatal incident. Authorities and rescue teams from the Sawang Boriboon Foundation promptly arrived at the scene. The victim, identified as 66-year-old Canadian Shirou Gilbert, was found lying face down at the bottom of the resort’s staircase. His head had struck the edge of a statue of a traditional dancer, positioned near the second step. Despite rescue efforts to revive him, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Resort staff confirmed that Gilbert had checked into the resort on December 2 and was scheduled to check out on December 9. Before the fall, he was seen leaving the resort, possibly for a workout. Upon returning, as he ascended the stairs with three steps leading to the resort, he lost his footing, fell, and struck his head on the statue, resulting in his death. In an initial investigation, officers found three suitcases in his room on the 9th floor, containing clothes, personal items, and a laptop with a charger. A box of medication and syringes was also discovered on a shelf near the refrigerator, suggesting he may have been undergoing treatment or had a medical condition. Authorities have collected the medication for further examination. Currently, the resort’s security footage has not been reviewed, as the staff responsible for monitoring it is out of town. The body has been sent to Bang Lamung Hospital for an autopsy. Police are also in contact with the victim’s family to inform them of the event. -- 2024-12-05 -

Collision on Chao Phraya River Near Bangkok Bridge, One Boat Sinks
Picture from responders. A boat collision occurred on the Chao Phraya River near the Bangkok Bridge on December 4, resulting in one vessel sinking and damage to five others. Police officers from Bang Kho Laem Police Station, along with the Bangkok Fire and Rescue Department and the Marine Department, were dispatched to the scene to investigate. The incident took place near the Bangkok Bridge, where six boats were involved. One boat, a 40-seat vessel, completely sank, while another sustained significant damage to its side and rear. Three additional boats were also damaged during the collision. A number of the boats damaged are tourist boats, used for dining cruises. Mr. Thongchai, a 61-year-old boat operator, stated that he was transporting charcoal to Ayutthaya when the collision occurred. He explained that the strong current caused one of the two towing ropes on the left side of his vessel to snap, rendering the boat uncontrollable. As a result, his vessel veered off course and collided with boats moored along the riverbank. Police took Mr. Thongchai to Bang Kho Laem Police Station for further questioning. Ms. Pimphimon, a 61-year-old passenger on the cargo boat, recounted the terrifying moment the rope snapped, causing the vessel to lose control. She was in the kitchen when she heard shouts warning of the impending collision. The boat, which had departed from Si Chang Island and was headed toward Nakhon Luang District in Ayutthaya, struck the stationary boats along the riverbank. Ms. Pimphimon expressed her shock, describing the incident as the first of its kind she had experienced. Another passenger, Ms. Jeab, confirmed the account, adding that she saw the collision but was unable to intervene due to the strong current and the broken towing rope. Mr. Thanaphat, a local resident who witnessed the collision, reported hearing a loud crash at approximately 10:00. He rushed out to see a cargo vessel crashing into several moored boats, with some of them drifting into the bridge in the middle of the river. One boat sank entirely. Fortunately, there were no injuries, as most of the boats along the riverbank were unoccupied at the time. Initial assessments suggest that the strong morning currents may have caused the cargo vessel to lose control, leading to the collision. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the exact cause and cost of the incident. -- 2024-12-05 -

Living in Thailand is very cheap?
You guys are delusional. You are so busy licking Thai boots that you have completely lost the plot. He is not paying double for condo because he doesn't live in chicken farm condo. Just because he took bad picture of food doesn't mean the food in Spain is bad. it is far superior than anything in Thailand and that pretty much goes for most of Europe. Everything is cheaper in Spain, most importantly the cost of healthcare. Everyone speaks English. You guys are whinging and whining about his choice because the only thing that's more expensive in Europe are women, but even that is debatable considering how much y'all have to pay here in Thailand to maintain the "relationship".
