I was absolutely mortified at what I witnessed yesterday.

A rather daft reply if you are questioning the point made that few people are wearing helmets on motorcycles here - all you need to do is open your eyes to see this issue.

Of course I and every person living here is aware of the total motorcycle BS that goes on everyday here.

Bob is just trying topic after topic to get his "groove" going again. We have had a variety of these since he supposedly left 2 months ago.  Tired of him. Colin my ass.

Not usual, the worse is when the dodgy thai rider has one hand on the handlebar and one hand holding a baby

  • Yeah no seatbelts either. My wifes family members looked at me as though i were on drugs when i told them to buckle my child up

A rather daft devoid of sense response, trying to correlate my post that cites Bob’s aka Colin imaginary experiences with helmets? How did you ever come up with that silly tangent?

There is nothing imaginary about the lack of helmet wear in Thailand....   regardless of who posted the topic.

Fair point - If this is Bob, surely the Mods can view the IP from which the post was made and establish is this is another trolling account or not....   Mods ? is this possible ?

I may shake my head in sympathy and disbelief, but the reality is that it's none of my business.   Unless they do something that puts my life at risk.

I'm not one of those who would leave the nanny state, and impose the nanny culture on them.

Nothing to do with a nanny state, common sense and road fatality statistics should tell people to wear a helmet.

Are you one of those people that think wearing a helmet infringes on your personal freedumb?

Would you expect the state or a GoFundMe to look after you, when you become a paraplegic as a result?

Taxi driver looked at me the same way when I buckled up yesterday.

Some taxi's don't even have the seat buckle available in the back seats!

I saw a farang motorcyclist without his seatbelt yesterday.

And a farang driving a pickup who wasn’t wearing his helmet. Crazy.

Do you wear a helmet when driving a car?
it would be a lot safer if you had an accident right?

Agreed....  let us know when you are on the road drunk driving....     and we can wear our helmet, 5 point harness and HANS device. :whistling:

Nah mate. Being a teller of tall tales is alright in itself, but sadly you tell the same tale every time. You really have to get a life, best done by starting over. You are not a success here.

555 this guy telling others of their failures

Who are we to judge, much less dictate how a guy making 300 baht a day should spend his money?

Racing drivers wear helmets, I am not a racing driver.

Cars have safety features such as seatbelts and airbags, scooters do not.

I've been driving cars and pickups for over 60 years. I've been rear-ended and T-boned. Never had a front-on collision.

I guess I must be doing something right, how about you?

If a single Thai person doesn't have a helmet, their choice to live or possibly die.

Don't you think it crosses a line when they put their children at risk as well?

I think there is a cultural element to it which I am still trying to figure out..

Pretty simple. They have a belief that they will be reincarnated so get another go at the game.

It works only when you are not doing anything that is dangerous or requires some thought or responsibility.

When members of the Mrs family get into my vehicle, I just sit there not moving, until they have all put belts on. No more than 4 passengers EVER. Our grandson ALWAYS in his car seat. He himself will not travel without.

Her friend actually got stopped and fined for having pax without belts. The cop tried for Bht 500 per pax, but she negotiated for 500 for all 4.

Although the quality may be suspect, I have to admit I was not aware that low-end children's motorcycle helmets are as inexpensive as they appear to be.

We have a very hard rule in our car - 100% seatbelt....    Even the InLaws automatically put their seatbelt on in our car, the irony being when the drive away from our house, they don't wear a seatbelt no matter how many times I ask them.

Years ago, when the BiB were having a seatbelt drive (no pun) we were pulled over and they wanted 2000 baht after accusing my passenger of not wearing a seatbelt - we just stubbornly refused as the passenger was wearing a seatbelt and the BiB was claiming they had just put it on (which was of course untrue) after a 10min stand-off the BiB must have realised he was missing further opportunities and waved us on.

Again.  None of my business.  I left the nanny state behind.

I'm thankful that I never have to choose between buying a helmet or eating this week.  Not all Thai families have that luxury.

Countless car accidents on bikes and in cars.

Has it actually ever made a difference?
Has a seatbelt stopped the in-laws from being injured?

Sure, but 100 baht is a lot to waste on a disposable kid.

Think of how many packs of cigarettes that would buy!!!

Priorities, man, priorities.

Such absurdly idiotic comment that it fits perfectly with your usual level of reasoning.

Even a basic helmet from Decathlon; whether for cycling, skiing, skateboarding, or wakeboarding, would offer better protection than those flimsy plastic contraptions. But, admittedly, even those are better than nothing.

While I’m sympathetic to the economic realities in Thailand that make transporting children on motorcycles commonplace, the thought of a parent choosing not to put a helmet on their child is just so wrong on so many levels....

I'm not sure if it's a matter of lack of education or simply a failure to consider the consequences....  its troubling nonetheless.
