December 7, 20241 yr I am considering upgrading my gaming desktop in which I installed a Ryzen 5600X a couple of years ago. Most sites recommend the RX 7800 XT or RTX 4070. As I am only in Thailand for up to 3 months a year and have a gaming laptop with an RTX 3070 I don't feel it's justified to get the RTX 4070. Although there was lots of bad reivews of the 8GB RTX 4060 I think it would be adequate for me as I only really play racing games. Assetto Corsa Competizione, Dirt Rally 2.0, Wreckfest, Project Cars 2. I just bought EA WRC24 in the Steam sale. A bit of MXGP 21 Advice which is where I buy most of my computer hardware from only has 3 Radeon RX 7 cards right now. https://www.advice.co.th/search?keyword=radeon+rx+7 JIB has a Sapphire 7800 XT at a reasonable price. I feel like this Gigabyte RTX 4060 woud do for my needs. I never play FPS games.
December 7, 20241 yr RTX 4060 would surely meet your needs. Go for it. I finally tried a Radeon earlier this year, a great value in theory (and on sale, too) and found it had a weird incompatibility with my A5 motherboard. Put it in my spare computer, where it works fine. I'll stick with Intel from now on. But the new Intel Battlemage cards have just been released. Look like great value and targeted at the RTX 4060 market. The independent benchmarks aren't up yet. Even Amazon doesn't have them in stock.
December 7, 20241 yr Author Thanks for the input. Watched a few YouTube videos on gaming benchmarks for the RTX 4060. Didn't make me any clearer. https://store.acer.com/th-th/acer-an-rx7800xt-oc This is a good price. 6K/50% more still which is significant. https://www.tech-critter.com/acer-nitro-radeon-rx-7800-xt-oc-16g-review/ I play on my 4K TV but usually at 1440p.

Higher tier, higher cost, and higher running cost. Cost-effectiveness evaluation 100.00 68.04 https://technical.city/en/video/GeForce-RTX-4060-vs-Radeon-RX-7800-XT Generally, Radeon gives somewhat better performance than Nvidia for money spent. Most gamers and Linux geeks on the 'net will inevitably favor Radeon and, as forum members do, sneer at "overpriced" Nvidia. The tradeoff has to do with the drivers. On Windows, Nvidia seems to attract fewer complaints. Just recently Nvidia deprecated the old GeForce for a new all-encompassing app, which is pretty nice. That said, my Radeon's doing fine on my spare computer, but I haven't stressed it much over there. If it'd worked on my A5, I'd be using it now. Chances are, whatever you choose will be fine. Me, I'm staying with Nvidia in the future, though I'd try a Battlemage IF Intel improves the Linux drivers a bit. I dual boot. Anyway, if money's no object, then you have quite a wide range. Why don't you go ask the gurus on reddit here: https://reddit.com/r/graphicscard/ They live and breather graphics cards and can answer all your questions. Registration's trivial.
December 9, 20241 yr Author I'm a huge fan of Reddit for tech stuf. Great sim racing community on there. Back in the UK I upgraded my Thrustmaster setup to a Simagic Alpha and Simsonn pedals this past summer. My Moza R5 in Chang Mai can't comppete with that but it's still fun. I did follow your suggestion and posted in that specific game subreddits and got the answers I needed. 😁

March 30, 2025Mar 30 Apologies for late answer... I just built my first PC a couple of months ago and went with 5700x3d paired with 7800xt and more than happy with performance... What did you go with in the end? I couldn't justify paying the extra for Nvidia....
October 13, 2025Oct 13 7090XT if you can afford it. It is like a 5070 TI less I think 5-7 % of performance but about 10-14,000 baht cheaper in Thailand. It uses FSR 4 I believe & now the ray tracing is about as good as Nvdia. I get mine tomorrow . I paid 22,500 baht on sale on Shoppee with their 3000 baht coupon they had. I couldn't say no. I just fried my MSI 2070 super so My new Ryzen build features this card.
