Hi there,

thank's for a fantastic forum.

I am happily married to my Thai wife. We presently live in Denmark(Schengen country) and I am Danish.

We have been married for 10 months and my wife has initial residence permit for 2 yrs in Denmark.

Now I have been offered a job in London, which would be very good. Then ofcorse we have to move to London.

Here is the Questions:

1) Is it "easier" to get a UK residence, when we are already "cleared" for Denmark?

2) Does my wife have to take some courses etc in UK? (Like in DK she had to learn Danish)

3) Can we freely travel in and out of DK, if we live in UK, or do we have to apply for Schengen visa every time?

4) Has anybody some links to more info abt these subjects?

Thank you very much in advance, for any helpfull inputs,

As you are aware, as a Danish citizen you benefit from freedom of movement within the EEA, so you can come and work in the U.K. without any prior authority. These rights are automatically extended to your spouse irrespective of her nationality.

Your wife will need to apply for a family permit at the British embassy in Copenhagen. She needs to demonstrate that you are married, that you are Danish and that you have been offered a job in the U.K. The permit will be issued free of charge and will be valid for six months. Upon arrival in the UK your wife can then apply for a five-year residence card which is, again, issued free. The Borders and Immigration Agency (BIA) is currently taking nearly six months to issue residence cards.

Your wife would not have to sit any English tests, although she may voluntarily wish to learn English, and she will be able to work in the UK. If you wished to return to Denmark for a holiday, your wife would need to apply for a Schengen visit visa, but if having lived in the U.K. for a period of time you were to decide to relocate back to Denmark permanently, your wife could then obtain a free residence permit for your home country.

If you wish to research the matter further, here's some light reading:-

So easy it is for Thais abroad. Wouldn't it be nice if we could receive the same courtesies here?

Yep. My Mrs is up for ILR in Sept but i'm ditching that route and going for a family permit. I have now attained my Irish Citizenship and will get it all for free. Still makes me angry that i have had to go that route though!!
