Police Truck Slides into the Sea While Towing Jet Ski on Koh Samui

The scene unfolded on Koh Samui when a police patrol truck slid into the sea while towing a jet ski back to the station. The incident, which occurred around 16:00 on December 7, near a beachfront road in Moo 3, Ang Thong subdistrict, left onlookers, including tourists and locals, in shock. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

 

The vehicle, a police pickup truck, marked with “Police” and “Marine Police Division 6,” was found partially submerged approximately 15 metres from the shore, with water reaching halfway up the vehicle. A large crowd of onlookers, both Thai and foreign, gathered to witness the unusual sight.

 

Preliminary investigations revealed that the marine police officers from Division 3, Subdivision 6, had been using the truck to tow a jet ski out of the sea to transport it to the Koh Samui Marine Police Station.

 

During the operation, the driver reversed the truck down a sloped ramp to secure a cable to the jet ski. However, the handbrake failed, causing the truck to slide backward into the water. The incident startled vendors, local boat operators, and tourists nearby.

 

Marine police and officers from the Koh Samui Police Station quickly mobilised to retrieve the vehicle and the jet ski from the sea. Both were eventually recovered and brought back to the station. Authorities have stated that a detailed investigation into the incident will be conducted to determine the exact cause of the brake failure.

Likely to be true.

They probably left the engine running (as is normal here) and just relied on the handbrake.

Oh the car had only a handbrake..... no normal brakes??? no gear 1 to go forward?? or is it the high leveled education of the RTP?

Tough crowd here.  Boat ramp fails are a favorite on YouTube.  Thousands and thousands of videos of people doing much worse. 

 

It's funny until it happens to your truck.  And even that turns into a funny story at the next beer party.

Those were my first thoughts as well, but it seems that it was a marine police jet ski

Was the jet ski owned and operated by the police? Why would the police involve themselves in pulling a jet ski out of the water unless they were paid for freelancing this job? I my country a policeman can aid something like this only if it is an emergency and their intervention can save someone but it is illegal for them to use a police car for personal gain or in a manner like this unless it is support for their own equipment. . But I am not sure about Thailand in this regard.

Reverse back, pull on handbrake.

Exit vehicle to connect trailer.

 

whee does one apply the foot brake or put vehicle into a forward gear ?

They were not freelancing.
