No more irrelevant than yours!

I’ve noticed that whenever bickering starts between a couple of site members, they often bring up one another’s post count as some sort of measure of credibility. This kind of petty nonsense reminds me of the Social Credit System in China, it’s like the inner workings of a dystopian future.

At the end of the day, post count measures only one thing: how many posts someone has made. That’s it. Turning it into a tool for comparison for anything other than that is ridiculous. In fact, all this post count measuring and one-upping is no better than a bunch of childish old men boasting about penis size.

So why do you bring it up if is irrelevant?

Personally, I seldom look at the numbers. But I think it sometimes funny when someone with a few hundred posts thinks he knows it all and for sure he knows it better than people with 10 thousands of posts.

I am obviously far from knowing everything, but living here since decades, and having lots of posts, means that often I have more experience than the guys who just arrived.

What makes you think that someone with a few hundred posts must have just arrived, cannot have been in Thailand as long as you have and cannot, therefore, have as much experience as you think you do?

Sure, it is possible that someone lives in Thailand for 20 years and has 20 or 200 post. But how likely is that?

And many of the people with few posts clearly show that they don't know much.

I don't blame anybody if they don't know much about Thailand, we all were newbies at some time. But it's funny when some new arrivals think they know it all.

I think a lot of old accounts with a low number of posts have been reactivated since the Trump landslide...

Highly likely.   AN is not universally recognised as the forum to go to apart from by the handful of usual suspects.  Many people live here for years and have never heard of AN or TV or, if they have (and I'm not referring to you here) can't stand the barrage of nonsense (to put it very politely) that is sometimes posted so they stay clear of joining in!

I don't do fiction.

I recall a few blokes on here having a pop at me about my post count, you know, you're a sad bloke, do something with your life, etc, with one I did the maths to find he posted daily, more than me.............🤣

These tools forget my near 18 years on here..........🤭

They also forget my contribution to making members happy near every day........😇...................🤭

I do comment on them  Why?  I can usually tell the post count is sub-100 (actually often sub-20) by the subject and the wording and format of the post.  What does that tell me.  My guess is that someone is making multiple accounts an is trolling.
You get a rather long-winded, somewhat well written post about some guy's 16 year old girl-friend being pregnant and "what should I do" as mum and dad will let her go for 1 million THB dowry and vet care for the sick buffalo - blah blah blah blah blah, yada yada yada, blah blah blah.

So yeah - I can usually pick them out before even looking at the post count - then I point it out.
It's old stale pablum and nonsensical garbage.

Very likely. Most expats that live in th are not even on TV/AN. But if AN is one’s entire world then how would they ever know?

As I said, it's not a measure of anything, but here you are going down that rabbit hole. How many posts a person has is not indicative of how much they know about or how long they have been in Thailand. Perhaps they've been here longer than you, and who even cares, but maybe they have better things to do with their time and simply are not interested in posting. So any measures you choose to apply based on post count or how long they have had their AN account are all meaningless.

Very likely. Many people sign up, quickly lose interest after getting flamed, or read all the long winded rubbish that gets posted, then retreat and may only post occasionally or not at all after that.

Also, if you follow all the negative and judgmental comments from all the long time (self professed expert) posters on AN then you might find life in Thailand completely miserable. So can't blame many for ignoring it all and living in the real world so that maybe they can enjoy themselves more.

In my original post, I forgot to mention all the whiners and moaners who make a mad fuss about when a poster signed up for their AN account or how many posts they have, especially when a relatively new member starts a topic of interest in the Pub. A lot of that also simply seems like jealousy and post envy to me masquerading as being judge and jury.

You must have done a lot of reading here, being a newish member, to make such a statement........😉
