Food Deliver Apps - Best and Cheapest?

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

What are your experiences with food delivery apps in Pattaya? Which tend to be the best and cheapest ones? I've only come across 3 of them, are there any others?

Also, how much commission do food apps usually charge the restaurants and how much goes to the driver?

LineMan - Seems to be the cheapest out of the three, however, it doesn't seem you can add your foreign credit card as a payment method and need to pay cash. Whenever I add my card, it goes to the Kbank processing page then it just goes back to LineMan without adding the card or giving any other messages. I've only ordered from Mixue ice cream place, which is only a walk from my condo. Seems prices on the app are exactly the same as what's charged if you go there in person, being 40 baht for a Sundae. Delivery is FREE if you take the Normal or Low-Cost option. If I'm going to place an order, I'll order 5 Sundaes and keep them in the freezer for later.

FoodPanda - Seems to be the 2nd cheapest out of the three. Can add a foreign card for payment and no extra fees charged. Mixue ice cream, they charge 50 baht for a Sundae, so you're paying 10 baht extra per Sundae ordered. They also add 7 baht as a delivery fee.

Grab - This is the most expensive option. Can add a foreign card for payment but they do charge you about 3% in fees to use this. Mixue ice cream, they charge 45 baht for a Sundae, so you're paying 5 baht extra per Sundae ordered. They also add 13 baht as a delivery fee plus a small order fee of 10 baht if order value is less than 55 baht plus Other fees of 3% of the value of the order for using a foreign credit card.

I tried to get verified with Line Pay last week and sent them my ID but nt accepted yet.

Not every restaurant is hooked up with every delivery service, so depending on what you want, you might not have much choice.  And some services seem to have specials, with reduced delivery fees.  Mostly, I don't care, as I give them a nice tip.  Those people work hard.

The cheapest isn't usually the best or even the best value.  Grab is the most reliable and has the best restaurants.  I wouldn't even consider using the others just to save a few baht.

I happily use my foreign credit card with grab as they have the best vouchers and discoints that easily offset this miniscule charge.

Also, my foreign card has 3% cashback, so....

How do you get the food vouchers? Is it those vouchers that appear under "Messages"? I find nearly all of them are for transport, not for food.

Grab,

When you talk about most expensive, we talking about what when everything is paid at the end?

Ah yes, I've got those as well. The only coupons Grab offers is 10% off over 100 baht spend, but still it ends up a lot more than ordering via FoodPanda or LineMan.

Yes, correct. After all the fees are added at the end giving you your total.

Give your credit card number and info to a Delivery Company.  Are you nuts?  I use Panda            cheap and good service but I always pay cash                 with a tip                The problem with cash is that the drivers don't usually have change so

I have a little cash drawer for food deliveries

I have used the food delivery apps LOADS of times......So here is the run down...

Yes if your paying cash ALWAYS ALWAYS make sure you have the correct change...

The discounts come and go all the time......If you want the lowest possible price check the price and discounts on what you want to order on Grab, Line, Panda and Shopee..........And the order from the one with the best discount.....

No delivery company is better or worse than the other.......

Not every app has every restaurant......

Always give at least a 20 baht tip to the delivery driver.....

If this is such concern for you you cant afford to live here.

Nonsense, no problem to use foreign credit cards with the app, I have never experienced wrong transactions here, I almost stopped paying with cash in Thailand.

.

You can tap your card even at 7 eleven.

Well good luck to you if you use your credit card in any bar in Thailand......Its not if but when you get ripped off.....And small restaurants sure dont take credit cards...

Cash is very necessary for many transactions in Thailand..

I never pay with the card in bars, only in well known restaurant chains.

Yes cash is still needed, but compared with only 10 years ago it's a different world today thanks to all the apps.

A local account and the phone app are fast becoming common, easy and safe to use with scan and pay.

I would be dubious of using a foreign credit card, for both the high risk of getting ripped off and the fact that they offer poor exchange rates, and sometimes foreign transaction surcharges.

I think at least for the past few months Panda has had the best discounts.....For quite a long time Grab had the best discounts......But Grabs discounts have gone downhill.

If you need a food delivery guy to bring your grub in it's time to chose another wife.

Only lazy people use these apps.Get your lass back in the kitchen where she belongs.

7 Eleven - you still have to spend a minimum of 200 baht to use a credit card, correct?

Lol......I agree... The girlfriend has some amazing talents.... But as far as  making Mexican food or pizza, she is hopeless....

I've never noticed any additional fee for cash or credit.

If paying cash, you don't need paper money; just scan pay. In the app, you can select cash as payment, and when the driver arrives, please tell them to scan pay.

But if you're a tourist and don't have a Thai bank account, you're limited to paying only paper money.

Grab almost all the time, but a few times, I used Lineman.
