Agree with you, and that is the problem.

I think it might do you good to go sit in the classroom sometime and see the behaviour that teachers have to put up with, and then the teachers get criticised when the kids have lousy grades, from kids and classrooms that have no interest in anything, except social media and playing with their smartphones.

When I was a 14 (1955) kid in what was known as Middle School, between Grammar and High School, the only person who could legally use corporal punishment was the Vice Principal.  The reasons were disruption of the classroom, not obeying the teacher, fighting in the classroom or outside, harassment of girls by boys, boys bullying boys, and smoking cigarettes, among others.

The wall behind the VP's desk was covered with paddles.  You were told to pick the paddle you wanted applied to your butt. This seemed to have the psychological effect of connecting the punishment to themselves and the responsibility for their behavior.

In grammar had a butch female PE teacher who would make us walk around the yard holding hands for fighting.  Then you had to scrape together two mounds of gravel and sit on them on your hands.

In high school the coaches had the paddles.  Made the mistake of mocking one coach in front of everyone after the first pop didn't hurt.  Second one did.

If the child is naughty then a slap on the wrist should work.do nothing  the child knows they can get away with it many times later

such an intelligent reply, I hope you only brain cell did not get too stressed.... I would prefer to be old, than be a halfwit like you... have a nice day, do not leave home, or you might get lost.

And dude, change your profile picture to a manicured poodle, it would be more fitting. All you do is spend your time clutching your pearls.

Are there any parents here who have never hit their kids?

I spanked mine just a couple of times when they did something dangerously bad.

Dude, you are all about your feel-feels over facts, keep on clutching your pearls about the "youth" just like every generation has done though out history. Wait till you find out what Sir Francis Drake was saying about the young uns' in his day, or even those pesky great thinkers of Ancient Greece, and how about hose Victorian and Edwardians, oh wait, you didn't hear what they said about the youth back in the 50s and 60s as well.... same <deleted>, pearl clutching old coffin dodgers whining. Keep clutching those pearls.

Mate, like you, I hasn't around when Drake, or the ancient Greeks, or "hose{sic} Victorian and Edwardians" were, so please enlighten us, as for the 50s and 60s, I was there, I was one of those young ones... we knew we didn't know everything, we respected our elders, and teachers and police, it's you kids, that never grow up, that do not understand, far too spoilt, lack of discipline, and failed to study or understand, you go around with a huge chip on your shoulders, believe the world owns you.

In the west, children aren't disciplined by their woke parents and look at what they grow up into.

Ive made this decision already for my children. Id rather they feel comfortable speaking their mind and questioning authority. If not they become subservient dogs like thais
