Quite a few members on this forum seem to be under the impression that Thais like to beat up foreigners for enjoyment, pleasure or because of some sort of hatred. That happens in some countries obviously but I don’t think Thais are really wired that way.

While others, including others always feel very safe walking around, even late at night around large groups of Thai strangers. As long as you are friendly and polite you have nothing to worry about, unless perhaps you come across someone with mental issues.

Of course if you are aggressive or rude to Thais as many foreigners are you will eventually come unstuck and they often end up in the news reports.. Some people mistake kindness for weakness.

what do you think?

Are you scared to go out at night amongst Thais or do you feel safe in Thailand?

Personally I feel safer here walking around alone, drunk late at night whether it be in Bangkok or a small village than I do back in London.

I am naive or are others plain paranoid?

100 times safer than walking around in London.

People forget that you can try to throw your weight around with small Thai guys who learned kickboxing in high school.

No. Thais do not attack foreigners for no reason. In my experience, Thais have been very kind to me, as a foreigner, for "no reason". They are very kind, respectful and generous.

yes ....  I get attacked every time I go to my 7-11,   I wish those girls would just leave me alone.   There are plenty of other handsome farang out there.

Don't be too complacent though

I never forget the young Aussie stabbed to death in Isaan 10 or so years ago riding his motorcycle

You got to switch off, ignore the haters, the miserably bastards, they are trolls looking for attention, probably only ever travelled from their home country to Thailand, now married to a miserable ex bar girl. Get ready for the abuse from some these Thai bashers here, please report their disrespectful comments.

I've travelled, worked and studied in over 40 countries, Thailand is the safest, I reckon far safer from where I was born, Australia.

The Thai's are the happiest, friendliest, most welcoming people I've ever met and worked with.

Sadly all the miserable, disrespectful, moaning foreigners who are arriving I am worried these good natured lovely Thai's will stop being as nice towards us.

I was doing some business at the Chonburi, Pattaya land office 2 days ago, I've been doing business for over 20 years at the land office. It's now located just before Laem Chabang, anyway I noticed the official who sat behind the desk we sat at didn't seem as friendly, not a Wai from him, not a big deal, it's only a little thing but it's my first time I experienced not being Wai on arrival. Poor guy has probably been abused by a miserable, moaning foreigner, he's had enough.

I've been saying this for years, the only bad thing about Thailand are some of the foreigners.

And just like in Australia saying sorry to him for invading his land

I did do a Google search before I asked you , but the only result came up was a woman and you stated "he" and that is why I asked you for confirmation of which case you were referring to

Here's the Google search for "Aussie stabbed to death in Isaan"

No mention of what you spoke about .

So, as I previously asked, can you provide a link to the case that you were referring to ?

Never had a problem in Thailand at any time of day or night (other than a few soi dog encounters)

I think the Thais are indifferent to our presence even though they can overreact to certain situations or cultural faux pas.  It does seem to be that in all the articles of foreigners being “attacked”, just looking at the photos of the foreigners, they seem to give off a negative, aggressive vibe which can put the Thais on edge more so than someone just peacefully/lazily passing by.  Maybe it’s the look in the foreigners eyes, their body language or general demeanor but Thais, from what I have experienced are very good at reading people.

You got to cut back on the toxic chemicals you use when mopping floors, it's affected your mind, possibly brain damage.

You've lost your marbles mate.
