British mother’s tourist warning after drugs kill daughter in Thailand

A grieving British mother urged tourists travelling to Thailand to steer clear of drugs after her daughter overdosed on a lethal cocktail of an unknown substance in Bangkok.

 

The 64 year old heartbroken mother, Anita Turner, from Bexhill-on-Sea, East Sussex, has been left shattered by the loss of her beloved 36 year old daughter Rebecca, who died in a Bangkok hotel room after snorting what she believed to be cocaine with her partner.

 

It was tragically revealed that the powder Rebecca and her partner bought was a lethal cocktail comprising nine different drugs, including painkillers, sleeping pills, and anxiety medications. Anita now warns young travellers to resist the temptations of pushy street dealers, warning that you never really know what you’re getting into.

 

“My heart is just broken in two. I can’t believe I’ll never see her again. Every morning, I look at her photo and just cry. It’s killing me. The pain of losing a child is indescribable. You can’t imagine such agony until it happens to you. There’s a massive drug problem out there, and you need to be really careful. It’s just not worth the risk.”

Rebecca, who had been exploring Thailand, was set to return home in April, earlier this year, but tragically died on March 15. Having previously spent four years in Laos, a place she considered her second home, she had been attending a friend’s wedding before checking into Bangkok’s Khaosan Palace Hotel with Sam, her partner.

 

CCTV captured Sam entering the hotel half an hour before Rebecca that fateful day, having texted a friend about purchasing cocaine, according to Anita. Tragically, both Rebecca and Sam were found dead around 1pm by concerned friends. Sam’s body was discovered in bed, Rebecca’s on the floor.

Police later disclosed to Anita that Rebecca had a concoction of nine drugs in her system: including opiates, morphine, codeine, noscapine, and a slew of benzodiazepines.

 

“So many people are dying, and they need to know about this. The road where Rebecca was staying is particularly notorious: a boy died of the same thing just a day before. I just want to shake people and tell them: please don’t take anything.”

 

Though Anita received an autopsy report from Thailand, she claims sections were censored. A UK inquest into the tragedy is expected to be heard in January.

The heartbroken mother of a 36 year old British woman from Bexhill, East Sussex, southeast England has paid an emotional tribute to her daughter, who was recently found dead in a Bangkok hotel room.

 

Rebecca Turner was on an adventure in Southeast Asia with friends when tragedy struck. Her mother, Anita Turner, described her as a vivacious and outgoing woman who lived life to the fullest.

 

“Bec was always the life of the party, loved travelling the world, and made friends wherever she went.”

 

During a four-year stay in Laos, Turner became an integral part of a local village community.

 

“I’ve only recently discovered the depth of her impact, as many people from around the world and the Laotian community have reached out to me with heartfelt messages. Bec generously supported the local school, providing significant help. The village mayor even held a ceremony to thank her, which was truly touching.”

 

Turner’s kindness extended beyond financial support. She and a friend from London often biked through the village, buying dolls from underprivileged children and redistributing them to those with nothing. After her death, an Irish bar where she was well-known held a memorial for her, and villagers queued to pay their respects.

“Laos captured Bec’s heart, and she loved it there.”

 

Turner had attended a friend’s wedding in Laos in February and spent some time there before heading to Bangkok, where other friends joined her. She planned to stay in Thailand for two months, with a return to the UK scheduled for April 16, just in time for a holiday in Peru, reported the Daily Mail.

 

Tragically, on March 16, the British woman and her boyfriend were found dead in their Bangkok hotel room, reported Sussex Express UK.

 

Turner’s body was repatriated to the UK, and her funeral took place on May 10 in Eastbourne. An inquest into her death is set to open next Tuesday, June 4.

Sad and tragic.  As a parent, I warn my kids as much as I can, but no matter how much you tell them to use common sense and be careful, <deleted> happens.  Most likely the <deleted> they got was spiked with Fentanyl.

Can teach your kids all you like about not taking drugs ect, at the end of the day you can only hope they listen and not cave in to temptation. This could have and does  happen everywhere in the world.

Have no sympathy.... Why!!

 

Brought up a son who started smoking weed at "Primary" school, weed maybe safe for adults, but, it does strange things to young boys minds going through puberty.  My other son wanted a padlock on his bedroom door, then they wife wanted one on our bedroom door.  My ex tried to understand and gave hundreds of last chances, I told him that taking drugs would end up in one or two ways, Jail or death.

When folk who are not smart think they are we are getting into troubled waters.  I used all my contacts, influence and money to keep him out of jail.  I were working abroad when 4 uniformed cops, 2 plain clothes came my home with a sniffer dog.   He were no longer an addict, now a pusher, he were not home when cops arrived he were out and told to head straight to the station, phoned me out in Indonesia asking me to fix, told him I cannot fix this time.  I were the bad one.

Done jail time and jail got him onto harder drugs.  UK jails have drugs freely available.

 

On the 29th December 2016, my son took his own life aged 27.

 

No drugs he would be still alive.  

 

Taking drugs is a choice, nothing more.  Drugs never end up well, it splits families and creates wounds that will never heal.

This is pretty extreme behaviour, weed has only just been legalised in Thailand and they take a dim view on class A’s. Anyone spending any time in Asia/Thailand knows this and that as a result class A’s are high risk.

There are an increasing number of Africans selling coke around Soi 11, BTS Nana and wonder who they hell is that stupid as one, the risk of set up/extortion and two, the quality/risk of use. Such a tragedy but if you choose to dance with the devil…..

You and many other parents should see how your "lovely kids" behave when on party mode in Thailands Koh Phangan, Pai, or anywhere they think there are no laws and rules for them.

This happens the world over since the beginning of mankind.  Some are dying from alcohol poisoning, some from fentanyl and other drugs.   From my reading history books it has been happening since the invention of alcohol and processed drugs - natural drugs also kill but I believe less often.  Hard to overdose from smoking opium or pot or eating shrooms.

People don't realize that anytime you take this junk, anytime you imbibe this junk in your system all bets are off. You really don't know what you're taking, you don't know what the potency is, you don't know what it's mixed with and it's best just to enjoy sobriety or smoke some ganja.

If she had common sense, she would not have touched cocaine.  Possessing cocaine in Thailand and may be in any of the neighboring countries will make sure she stays years in prison or hanged straightaway.

I can't see how a mixture of the drugs in the article would look anything like what they thought they had purchased which leads me to think they had zero knowledge on what it even looked like.

2 people on holiday looking for adventure, out pushing the envelope for the first time and their naivety killed them.

There is nothing to say the coke was dodgy just that they had a cocktail in their system. they might well have been mixing drugs themsleves.

it is truly sad that these young people do not understand that Khaoson Rd is full of knock offs ,pimps and thieves.

Not to mention other places,

NZ and Aussie are full of badly cooked drugs and drugs laced with fentanyl, the culprits are the gangs who have teemed up with the Chinese mafia.

The Lebanese run the drug trade in Australia, in LOS who knows but the police are likely to be involved and some bad imported people.

How can it be stopped? it probably can't, until stupid people or should I say gullible innocent people learn not to touch the stuff.

RIP to a nice couple who did not deserve this.

I just read that Thailand will keep the death penalty, hope that they catch these low life murderers and execute them.

You really dont get it. The common sense aspect is not buying white powder on the street on Khao San Road in Bangkok. Total lack of any sense let alone common.
