Police Apologize with Sit-ups After Bangkok Cop’s Gun Incident

The Thong Lo Police Station apologized for misconduct after Police Sergeant Major Montri Meedate fired a gun outside a Bangkok nightclub on December 14. Montri, intoxicated and denied entry, argued with security and fired a shot into the sky, sparking public outrage. Superintendent Phansa Amaraphithak accepted responsibility, suspended Montri, and ordered all 140 officers, including himself, to perform 10 sit-ups as a public apology. Officers were also reminded about firearm rules and alcohol risks. Montri, released on 150,000 baht bail, faces charges for illegal gun possession, carrying a firearm in public, firing without reason, and causing fear.
