In the usually quiet province of Udon Thani, a reckless driving incident involving a former monk has ignited a storm of community outrage and social media mobilisation. The shocking collision was captured on CCTV, displaying a green Toyota Corona, driven by Itthidet Wongkamchan, careening into a motorcycle carrying two teenage girls—Fah, 15, and Noon, 14. This tragic event has left the girls battling severe injuries, including broken limbs and hip fractures.

 

The accident unfolded as the girls were on an errand for their elderly grandmother. Eyewitnesses recounted Itthidet's initial assurance to cover the medical expenses, a promise that has remained unfulfilled as he disappeared without a trace. The mounting medical bills have pushed both families into financial turmoil, forcing them to rely on high-interest loans.

 

Fah’s mother, hailing from Hat Yai, shared her emotional turmoil as she faced over 30,000 baht (approximately £720) in unanticipated expenses. "We are ordinary people, and this accident has left us in a difficult situation," she lamented, urging the driver to bear his responsibility.
