The US has scrapped a $10m (£7.9m) reward for the arrest of Syria's de facto leader Ahmed al-Sharaa, following meetings between senior diplomats and representatives from Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS).

Assistant Secretary of State Barbara Leaf said the discussion with Sharaa was "very productive", and he came across as "pragmatic".

A better man than the last one for sure.

If he kicks out the Russians, even better.

As the US representative said, "it would be rather awkward having a discussion with someone that had a 10 million reward on their head".

I'm more concerned that Turkey may force him into a proxy war against the Kurds.

Let's see if Iran  can buy him off.  He had to fight Iran, Russia and Hezbollah to get rid of Assad. Arabs carry vendettas for generations. In the region, their loyalties can be purchased. Other times they cannot be.

is she trying to play a Thaksin "almost" dead, very sic, fighting for her life just to get back into the UK... hope the UK doesn't fall for it as Thailand did. The new government should do to her as she did/instructed/advised to do to innocent Syrians

Russians killed 1,000's of innocent Syrians, letting them stay it's a sign of weakness, remove all of their permits/permissions and kick them out ASAP, the faraway the better for Syria
