I have all the symptoms but I don't know how to check it or treat it. I don't know if my levels are high or low in the morning.

 

Example. Last night I had buffet. Ate a lot of sweets. Woke up dizzy and sweating at night.

 

For the guys who have this problem, what do you normally eat during the day, especially at night here in Thailand?

This was my idea in the beginning to establish a camp where lost souls could come for a month, get up early I'm the morning, and spend their days up with us learning how to take care of themselves. Cooking, exercising, mental training and follow them to a blood lab and get their blood panel. And then take them to a Dr who could explain what their results says.

But after meeting xx expats who truly could had use of my facilities and expertise, I understood, nothing or No one can help them unless they understand themselves they need to do the work themselves.

 

Most people understand what they have to do, but very few are willing to make changes before it is almost to late or to late

The OP should get himself tested for fasting blood sugar ( FBS ) and HbA1c at a pathology lab. That will give him the information he needs, to determine if he has a problem.

When is it too late?

I have diabetes and I take the medicine.

And I like ice-cream and cake.

Obviously, I could stop eating ice-cream and cake. But what is life without them?

OP needs to go to a Dr and get some relevant tests done.

I only know I'm pre diabetic because the Dr had routine tests done.

 

Anyway, give up sugar and

a/ lose weight

b/ not get your legs chopped off or go blind from diabetes.

c/ save loads of money

 

I did nothing other than give up sugar, and no diabetes for 2 years. I did lose a lot of weight. I'm only 2 kg more than what I weighed in 1996, instead of 16 kg more.

Diabetic  1.5 Lada. for 34 years next month

 

go to a Dr Clinic or a Hospital.. DO Not Eat or drink anything before.. at least will give you some idea.....  [cost may be 100 baht at Clinic or Government Hospital]

 

100% you need to buy a glucose Blood Sugar testing meter if it is Blood Sugar -

 

'Woke up dizzy and sweating at night.'  = normally for me that is because I am low under 65  [you should be 90 - 120]

on the other hand maybe could also be Blood Pressure - had the same symptoms often - 2 days ago  blood sugar was fine but Blood pressure was 88/43  [should be around 120/.80

 

I have for years got a Blood Sugar Machine + Blood Pressure Machine = test every morning + in the day if feeling bad or odd,

If you could prevent your diabetes? Would you have done it? 

 

Can still eat ice-cream, but you would need to regulate your daily diet, and keep your treat days to a few a week, not every day. Also exercise 3-5 days a week. Would that be acceptable?

Exercising 3 - 5 days a week? No!

 

I don't really want to change my diet - at least I don't want to delete things which I like.

 

Years ago, I also drank a lot of coke and similar drinks. When I was diagnosed with diabetes, I stopped drinking coke and such drinks. To my surprise I don't miss them at all.

You have a choice, and maybe annoyed or provoked by my earlier post? But there where no harm intended l, just stating facts that most lifestyle diseases as in the name,  are preventable if there is will to do it. Many don't and have to live with it, often masked up with medication who do not cure anything, just keeps things in check. 

 

Would I live like that? No, but I still enjoy good tasty food. Just not everyday, or not even many times a month, but when I do, it taste very good, also the feeling of deserving those cheat days, or holidays. 

 

Just ordered some to treat mysel during the Christmas, and been thinking about it days before I made the order, and many times a day, since I placed the order 😄 Just like a kid waiting for Christmas.

Get your hb-a1c tested. A 3 month average of blood sugar levels. Much more useful than the spot test finger prick test.

 

There's lots of good sugar free ice cream available. Foodmart in Pattaya has some single serving containers for 40 baht. Etc.

Just a few things. I am normal weight, 196cm, 94kg. I do have some fat. I used to run  regularly up until 6 months ago when I developed some knee issues....probably due to all the running.

 

I get nervous easily, so it probably contributes to this state.

 

I like the good stuff in Thailand, but lately I avoid sugar like plague. Last night I had a lot hence the symptoms and worry. 

 

My question is really what people with this problem usually eat  here as food here is full of extra sauces and cr@p. I am a terrible cook and when I can I usually order lean chicken slices plus veg from those "healthy" places  I'm pretty tall, so that is often not enough for a meal. Also, I am a Serb, so we eat a lot of bread....I do cheat with those subway sandwiches and pizzas.

 

Help me with a menu. NO OVEN. NO Air Fryer.

You eat poison, and then complain about the results.

Perhaps stop eating sweets, and this would also include no more Thai food, as it is just about all laced with refined sugar.

Yes done every 3 months - for passed 10 years between 6 - 6.3 so is good and well managed  SO SAY

 

But that does not help when you suddenly drop for ?no reason?   you suddenly feel light headed and start to sweat and shake  finger prick shows you have dropped to below 60

If you did not do anything there and then could well go into a Diabetic Coma !!

 

Test 99 = take less Insulin, then suddenly wake up at 3 am light headed with sweat and shakes = finger prick 53 !! that was on 14th Nov - twice since then have suddenly dropped around 3 am to 60 or under. 

 

Likewise for no reason ? this morning was 160  Why ?

Seriously max 3 customers a month, could make it worth it back in Isan the cold good months, even without the cult stuff, just plain hard work every day. Army style.

One time I thought I had the problem, so I watched everything I could on Youtube abut the subject.  The answer is simple, according to some doctors.  People become sugar addicts. So, what you have to do is quit sugar.  That takes about three days. No sugar, no bread, no carbs, no high fructose corn syrup, no seed oils, no food additives... Just beef and some fish once in a while with some green leafy vegetables for the nutrients they provide.

 

Eat like that for a month or so and your body will burn through a lot of fat and begin to process the protein you eat for energy.  You'll lose all the dangerous fat surrounding your organs, especially abdominal fat.  Those fats are the primary cause of systemic inflammation which in turn can cause insulin resistance and ultimately, diabetes.  

 

As it tuned out, I didn't really have the problem, but I did lose some wight.  

 

Or, if all that seems to radical, maybe try the Mediterranean Diet.  

 

Anyway, see a doctor and a nutritionist.

Come on, day or night?

You can eat anything which does not have a lot of sugar in it, including fruit and juices. Dilute OJ with a good shot of Voddy!

You can still work out your muscles, rowing machine,  swim, and find good protein sources like egg white, beans, as well bananas as one out of many good fruits, nuts, lean beef and at least 300g of vegetables every day. 

 

This is a good start to explore.

This is a good start to explore.

 

Not to forget, make a logbook or download an app, and start measuring what you eat, and make a total amount of calories to consume every day.

They say that orange juice is even worse for you than sitting there and simply eating a bunch of sugar.  Something about the glycemic index.  Anyway, some fruits are better than others because they contain fiber in addition to glucose, which can temper insulin spikes.  For example, Kiwi fruits aren't too bad, in moderation.

I tell the person cooking the food for me in a food court to leave out the sugar.

 

Sugar is used to balance the chili that is added to many Thai dishes. If the chili is reduced or eliminated, sugar is unnecessary.
