Village in Panic as Giant Python Swallows Wild Boar & Lies Motionless in Rubber Plantation

A rural village in Thung Yai district, Nakhon Si Thammarat was thrown into a state of alarm when a massive reticulated python, measuring 4 to 5 metres in length, was discovered lying motionless in a rubber plantation with a swollen belly. The villagers initially believed the snake was dead.

 

The shocking discovery occurred in Ban Khao Nang Non, Krung Yan subdistrict, where local farmers were tending to their rubber trees. The snake was found in the plantation with its body completely still, leading residents to assume it had passed away. The large bulge in the snake’s belly suggested it had recently consumed a sizable meal.

 

Fearful of the snake’s presence, villagers contacted the Thung Yai branch of the Southern Thai Rescue Foundation (Sa-Tek-Tung) to safely relocate the creature away from the populated areas. The rescue operation provided much-needed relief to the community, as many were too frightened to continue harvesting rubber in the area due to the snake’s proximity.

 

Upon inspection, no missing persons were reported in the village, and it is believed that the snake’s recent meal was a wild boar, likely a full-grown adult weighing no less than 40 kilograms. The snake’s lethargy was attributed to the challenging task of digesting such a large prey.

 

The snake was successfully moved to a forested area, far from the village, to avoid any further concerns for the locals. The incident has sparked both curiosity and relief within the community, which can now return to its daily activities without fear of encountering the giant reptile.

I shared this story with the staff here (we do get a lot of snakes).

One girl looked very worried and I asked why.

"I am only 37 kilos" was the reply.

No need to kill the python. They did the right thing in, reportedly, having it returned to a forest area far from the village.

There are only 6 recorded occurrences of this happening worldwide. How about we stick to worrying about road deaths and leave nature to get on with its life!

Yes and I'm puzzled at the header:- "A rural village......thrown into a state of alarm" and yet the happy guys moving it on said something like--  "it was harmless?"

Q...  why arent the public and Thai authorities dealing with the reality of  deaths from Pit Bull Terriers and the like.?? Mmm cut their heads off and feed the pythons.

Pythons almost never attack people. The most dangerous animals are human beings.

It was a snake doing what snakes do, eating. 

Leave the snake alone, the people called people who are qualified to remove the animal to a safe location for  snakes.

I've seen a SMALL snake(s) several times traveling thru our yard - "Thanks for the visit, good bye."
