Thais are riding around with no helmets and young children on bikes oblivious to the law, 95% dont wear helmets (guess)

However a falung friend got pulled the other day, and had to pay up 900BHAT on the spot , the police wanted 1000, 900 was all he had.

They excepted this and said otherwise you have to come to Police station and pay 2000Bhat.

Meanwhile Thais ignore the helmet rules and police are now picking on tourists and expats, as Thais probably dont have that sort of money, I was not aware they raised the fine from150 to 2000 Bhat, it seems only to exploit those they think have money, very sick corruption nothing to be proud off shame on the Police.

The fine used to be ;

Driver with no helmet, B500

Passenger with no helmet,B1000

It the changed 2 or three years ago.

Driver with no helmet,B400

Can't remember what the passenger went down to.

B150 must have been a brown envelope job.

Hopefully the Thais will deport him in due course.

I can't understand why he was not held in custody.

Neither of those will ever happen for a traffic violation and a misdemeanor.

Do this in your own country and find out what you get. This law is international

Nonsense.  Once a motorist's copy of a traffic ticket has been handed him he can do whatever he wants with it. Regardless, which countries do you have in mind for your assertion?

Try that back in whatever country you came from and see what happens. Most idiotic comment of the week

And what are you claiming would happen to a motorist doing whatever he wants with his copy of the ticket, and in which country would it be illegal?

No, he did not have to, he could have insisted on being given a ticket to pay at a police station as you stated in your comment!    Traffic tickets in Thailand are not on-the-spot cash fines and B2000 is the maximum fine, not a mandatory amount, the issuing officer has discretion.

It is an update...as is clearly stated on the OP.

Yes I know, Metisdead told me that 4 hours ago. Thanks.

However, there was nothing I read in the Update which wasn't in the original.

The original article is also in the OP for this thread.   The update is different and has more information.

Is this because YOU don't have LAWS in the UK, or just don't follow them, so you believe you can do the same in ANY other country you visit.?

Deportation?   For what?  Some comments here are as ridiculous as the minor offence the Briton committed.

100% agree...    behaving like that [swallowing the ticket] was a ridiculous thing to do, but also a rather trivial offence.

The over-reaction by the BiB is also ridiculous, is rather pathetic and screams of face.

It seems these days (or perhaps always) the Police only take serious measures when there is media attention, but this should be filed where it belongs... 'in the don't be silly bin'... the guy fined for not wearing as shirt or helmet and told to get on his way before more resources are wasted.

He was stupid - but this is hardly a deportable crime as some fools are suggesting.

Yet you rattle your cage at those you accuse of rattling their cages....

What nonsense are you posting now? You seem to be infamous for that around here. Stating something is "somewhat educational" is a world away from the cage rattling in this thread. Now get back in your cage 😊

Seems to me those who say "Don't like it?Leave!" are incapable of any intelligent discussion, beyond 4 words.

If you consider your comment 'somewhat educational' that lends to questioning the standards of education you received...

I wasn't shown monkeys rattling their cages at school. Were you? If so, maybe your educational establishment was a zoo.

That seems to be the case, since I did not write that my comment was "somewhat educational". 😊

"that lends to questioning"? Faux intelligence too. 😊

Anyway, I've made my point, so in parting...

Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him.

Over and out...

Following the incident, on the evening of 22 December, Pattaya Police Chief, Pol. Col. Navin Thirawit, instructed the responsible officer to formally charge the individual, identified as 34-year-old Emmanuel, with "destroying an official document".

He didn't destroy it, he transformed it into a piece of sh*t.
