If we can't invade Greenland can we do a minor incursion or is that a big fat "don't"?

Could try to persuade the Cubans to have a go....bit chilly for them though.

Apparently, previous Trump administration officials have reported that Trump's obsession with Greenland was first inspired by his idiocy about how it is pictured on MAPS.. Greenland appears as massively LARGER than it actually is on MAPS and it's well known that Mr. Trump is fixated with BIGLY stuff. Obviously for a bizarre egoist like Trump having the legacy of grabbing such a GIANT chunk of land would be very pleasing to him. The most powerful man in the world to be -- Americans voted for this MADNESS.  Embarassing to say the least.

Why do maps show Greenland so big?

The reason maps show Greenland so big is due to the use of the Mercator projection. This map projection stretches the areas near the poles, making them appear larger than they actually are. Greenland, being located near the North Pole, is significantly distorted and appears much larger on maps than it actually is.

I think he wants the Panama Canal back, probably more useful for the US Navy than any Greenland dreams.......

I doubt he wants Greenland for anything other than denying it to China. It's not as though it's got oil or anything like that, or does it?

Trump have created so much uncertainty everywhere with his ideological speeches all over the place, and it is hard to believe he actually saying the words coming out of his mouth.

He is totally insane.

I doubt Trump thinks before opening his mouth and letting his brain fall out. IMO that is why he is popular, because he's just like most of us. Most of us say stupid things from time to time too.

Insane? No more than most people, IMO. Believing there are more than 2 genders is pretty insane and lots of people believe in that.

Not sure how Trump's possible verbal annexations of different countries can be a possibility, doesn't he need Senate approval ? that could be a tough one........

Well going to war is supposed to involve an act of congress, but that has been ignored by U.S. presidents for a very long time. A hostile annexation of Greenland would be an act of war against NATO ally Denmark. As far as the funding for wars, that does need buy in from the house.

Can someone please explain to me why, in god's name, Trump thinks that "for national security and freedom the ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity"? 🤔🤪🫣🥱

One of his closest advisors, in a musky voice, cooed

"Mr. President, we cannot allow a permafrost gap!"

Because oil or something like it are the only valuable substances to come out of the ground?

Given Trump's enthusiastic embrace of fossil fuels, even coal, I think Trump's actual policy would be "We cannot allow permafrost!"

Some of you have forgotten Ronald Reagan ordering the invasion of Grenada. He attacked a British possession then had to call Maggie Thatcher to apologize.

My prediction is that Greenland will remain part of the Danish sphere with a specific security treaty signed with the USA which will enforce a modern Monroe Doctrine.

Posters of a certain ilk believe anything Trump says. Some of us think he engages mouth before brain ( sometimes brain is never engaged ), and don't think every word he utters is gospel.

Greenland has an abundance of rare minerals, which are becoming ever more important in high tech manufacturing. The reduction in ice coverage is making mining these minerals more practicable.

There is an awful lot of money to be made from this in the next few years. Trump is unlikely to be around to benefit from the full extent of these profits, but Musk will be, and if Trump presides over acquiring Greenland and opening it up to US mining companies he will be richly rewarded!

Much the same could be said of Canada.

Gosh, maybe even as much mineral wealth as Afghanistan.

You think Trump will sign a surrender treaty that goes into effect under his successor, like he did last time?

Drivel. He's not President yet. You're just projecting and speculating.

By the way, did you notice Democrats swinging behind the Laken Riley Act? Even they have had enough of the "sanctuary city" stupidity.

Truth in that, however - China attempted their indebt policy by offering to build airports and a sea port. Using the Sri Lanka model if Greenland couldn't repay the debt China would write it off and impose a 99 year lease. That's exactly what happened to Sri Lanka's national port.

But that's not the whole story. The sea port would have been for civilian maritime use. Naturally. The Chinese navy would call in from time to time on "friendship" visits. These "friendship" visits would be extended and become more frequent until China had effectively a permanent naval presence in the North Atlantic.

Add similar to the three airports ( why a population of 56000 needs three airports is beyond me ) then you would see Chinese militarization of the bridge between North America and Europe.

No one in their right mind wants that. If you think I'm making it up, check out what happened in Sri Lanka and what is currently happening in the South China Sea ( have a look at Africa too ).

You just know how this will play out. Just like everything else Trump says.

1)Trump says Greenland will become part of the US

2)left lose their minds, scream and wail and call DJT every slur invented.

3)time passes, DJTs triggering logic becomes accepted fact, Greenlanders decide they are better of in the US

4)the left say it was planned all along, nothing to do with DJT.

I actually do expect some common sense from you, and not just biased stupid comments like this.

You know what is proper behaviour, and I know you know,  and think Trump is all over the place now. He is insane, there is no excuse for an potus to behave like this before he take the seat, or after.

Through Denmark, Greenland is already part of NATO.
