2025 stock favorites
Well, it took a big dip, didn't it? But, then it came back, didn't it? Dips also happen with stocks, from time to time. With both, though, the average long-term trajectory has been up, over time. Just one example. My late Dad no longer has his stock portfolio but I kept a list of his stocks on Yahoo Portfolio Manager, which I still have. In 2009, when he died, the portfolio, held in a family trust, was worth about $600,000. No stocks were bought or sold after his death, with the portfolio kept intact. In April 2011, for some reason I can't remember, I did a printout of his stocks at that time, which I kept. The portfolio was then worth about $747,000. MSFT at $25.63! LLY at $35.68. DOW, on the other hand, a subject of several posts on this thread, was $36.70 then--and not much different today--$39I.40. In December 2019, when my Mom passed away, the portfolio was worth $1.88 million--I still have the Merrill Lynch printout. Then, in 2020, covid hit and the portfolio took a huge dip--I think at one point it was down to around $1.2 or 1.3 million. By the time probate was finally finished and the portfolio distributed, it was back up to a little over $1.8 million. Today, had it not been liquidated, it would be worth $2.3 million. So, dips, but a rising trajectory over time. Same, with housing. Just one example. One of the last condos I owned in the US, in Reston, VA, I bought in 2008 for $216,500. Fixed it up and a year later sold it for $244,250. Zillow tells me it is now worth $325,700. The original owner, by the way, bought the condo for $93,580 in 1993. One of the things I like about owning property is not only do you put a roof over your head but you also have the potential to make some money--on that rising trajectory. -

Thailand Aims to Woo Elite Tourists Amidst Regional Rivalry
Valid points.. It was 'back packers' who put Thailand on the tourist map.... (arguably)... the back-packers came because Thailand was affordable, safe, exotic, fun... ... Those same back-packers came back for return trips later on with their families, and then made further return trips. 'Repeat custom'.... Meanwhile other areas are a 'once in a life time'... i.e. India, Nepal etc tourists tend to visit such countries once in their life, experience them once and have no great desire to return. Thailands success is its charm and that attracts return visitors - If Thailand loses that charm, it loses its return visitors. -

Possible to buy a decent blender in Thailand for a decent price?
Does anybody know where and how to buy a decent blender for use in Thailand, without paying extremely high import duty (if ordered from Amazon USA)? I am sure that I would be satisfied with something like this, having 1500 watts of power, or higher wattage might be even better. I like to crush ice, chop lean chicken meat, perhaps make a Pattaya-Papaya Frappe (papaya-ice-milk powder). However, in the past, the sprocket of the machines I buy in Asia always break, after relatively little use. Then what do you have to do?....Just put it in the garbage with the papaya peelings. I will mostly use this to chop chicken breast because....all I can buy from the big-box-store here is just meat from tough old birds, or fast-growth birds, or just very tough. The only way to eat this, in my view, is to boil the chicken breasts and then let them cool, and then chop them up, suitable for chicken-salad sandwiches. However, although I have never tried doing this before, I have read that one needs a very powerful blender for lean chicken meat, and that advice probably goes DOUBLE for the tough old birds around here...for sure. I am not even sure that this NINJA Machine might do the trick, even though I have seen that it is highly-rated: I have no doubt that China produces many decent blenders. But I don't know which brands might be good. The cheap-charlie brands I used in Taiwan broke very quickly when I dumped in ice cubes, for example. Not sure what my budget might be. However, I think Bt.2000.00 might be OK. I do not want to overpay for anything here in Thailand. I already have an Electrolux ULTIMATE TASTE 300 blender. I have not used it yet, and it was purchased two years ago. Of course, I don't put much faith in that...and this is why I have not used it yet. Still in its box, untouched. 1000 watts, for me, is just a toy...even though....this was the highest wattage I found at the time of purchase. Wish I had not bought it!!!!! I could have used that money.....and added another Bt.2000....in order to buy a decent machine. So then....what might be the best solution. I want something that will not break with normal use. Tks. Yes, Virginia, Donald J. Trump WILL be the first convicted felon to become U.S. president
One thing I find curious about the greatest American political division since the civil war that was not resolved a bit by the tragic election of Trump is that the Trumpist side seems to think it's actually possible to convert anti Trumpists just by saying he won. -

Right, so other people demonising opposing politicians makes them to be a fascist . But YOU demonising opposing Politicians doesn't make you to be a fascist ? Extreme double standards there -
