Does your Thai wife or girlfriend ever foot the bill?
Mrs. Neville (born to a family of wealthy landowners) is your classic sugar mama. She always takes care of the bill and would find it very offensive if I ever offered to pay. She's been a bit grumpy of late but we have now kissed and made up, and she's taking me for a slap up meal later tonight at one of the most expensive joints in town.. She dresses me in the all finest clobber, my wardrobe is full of swanky shirts and snazzy jeans - she's definitely a keeper. We have our ups and downs and to be honest the downs usually stem from when I offer to pay for something out of my own pocket. She gets really annoyed and always asks 'why you want to pay? you already know I have money...' before slamming her platinum credit card down on the cashiers desk.. Is it the same for you lot? -

Where to travel out of country for 2 days?
OP - Sorry to hitch hike but this guy knows Taiwan. So, I'd like to ask, 1. Do they speak English in Taiwan? I red they wanted to make English official 2nd language while back. 2. How is traffic? I know it's RHD but how's driving in countryside? Friendly? A mess? - Taiwan is still on my bucket list. -

In a roundabout way they are (going after us !) well the Revenue Department is with taxation..... But, I see what you mean - they 'should' make being here simpler for long termers who spend their money here. Offer health care, offer long term Visa's (i.e. decades) or paths to residency and citizenship for those married here... but thats from a personal perspective - Does Thailand have to 'woo' us ?? - we are already here.... -

That raises a question, to which I have no idea of the answer. Say I am left in UK an appreciable amount of money by the last surviving of my parents, who would have had to pay Inheritance tax by their Executors, When I then die and leave it to my children, would my Executors have to pay I Tax on it AGAIN? -

If the wife remitted monies from an offshore account in her name, which contained monies from a bank loan, from an inheritance from her father, and from a gift from you -- sounds like a completely non income remitting event. So, why would she be subject to Thai taxation? Yes, you -- the gifter -- are certainly money laundering that gift. Ho hum.
