Yup. Mostly just 'size'.

In Nothern Thai you can also use it to mean amplify the meaning of 'a lot', 'heavy', etc, similar to adding words like 'totally', 'absolutely' or less polite expletives in English. :o

/fon tok nak khanaad/

/it rained frigging heavy/ :D

It's not impolite though.

Canad ขนาด

Heared this a lot and cant get a very good explanation on what it means, can any one help?

Aparently it has two meanings.

Thanks

Hi there Random Chances! :D

I can think of several uses of "ขนาด kanat" so I'm not surprised you hear it pretty often in everyday conversation! :o

Here are a few of the usages with some examples:

1.Size,Dimension etc.

มันขนาด 3X1 เมตร =man kanat 3X1 met=It's 3X1 metre.

ขนาดยาวคือ 2 เมตร=kanat yaow keu 2 met=The length is 2 metres.

2.Standard

ดีถึงขนาด=dee teung kanat=up to standard

ไม่ได้ขนาด=mai dai kanat=not up to standard

เกินขนาด=keun kanat=better, more or bigger than standard.

3.Extent (usually with an adjective or adverb)

มันดีขนาดไหน=man dee kanat nai=How good is it?

ราคาแพงขนาดไหน=ra-ka paeng kanat nai=How expensive is it?

ไม่ใช่ไกลขนาดนั้น=mai chai glai kanat nan=It's not that far.(i.e. It's nearer than you said)

มากขนาดนั้นหรือ=mahk kanat nan reu=That much!

Please tell me if these fit with the ones you've heard. :D

Cheers. :D

Yea thats about spot on thanks snowleapard, I'd more or less got the size one worked out, but was having a bit of trouble with standered, extent.

Oh 3X1 3 koon 1 right? dont now how to spell it in thai and the wifes gone to bed.

Ever come across Mat at tarn (maybe one word) think its more like standerds?

One more question

ขนาดยาวคือ 2 เมตร=kanat yaow keu 2 met=The length is 2 metres

Do you need the "keu" in and mabye

Kwam yaow keu 2 met = the lenght is 2 met

Man yaow keu 2 met = its 2 meet

Make scence? I left the keu in

Cheers RC

No!You don't need the "คือ=is"!Many Thai sentences are without verbs! :o
Kwam yaow keu 2 met = the lenght is 2 met

Man yaow keu 2 met = its 2 meet
