Hi, I am not sure which section to put this in, I looked but not sure

Hi. I have a Thai Will that stipulates that when I die, my money will go to my sisters in the US. Talking with people and knowing how hard it is to get money to the States, I'd like to find anyone here who knows someone who died and whose money was sent to his heirs in a Western country. If so, how did they do it, or who did they use to do it? I don't want to leave that money here when I die. I have researched it to death but got different answers even from lawyers. thanks

Currently working on this as Executor of my friend’s Estate here in Thailand. Brief delay due to the holidays. Court appointment as Executor will be filed tomorrow. Upon death, bank accounts are to be closed until the Thai Court appoints the Executor officially which, I am told May take up to 4 months. After receiving appointment, I can access bank accounts, pay bills of the Estate, sell property. I accord with the Thai Will, I will remit the balance to heirs in Australia. At which point, the Australian Will kicks in and my responsibility is finished.

The same limitations apply after probate as they do if you wanted to send the money now whilst you’re alive.   You need to assemble all the incoming foreign transfers, you can normally get d

Why would they not honor it?   You say you did this before but they wouldn't send it, have you died previously? 🙂

And then of course, when my lads leave it to THEIR kids, more tax is payable. A disgrace.

The money I have here will go to my Mrs, that in UK to my sons, so no cross border transfers will be needed.

I do stress to both parties that whatever they spend now will simply come off what they will have at my ending.

Much the same. Thai Will = to Thai Wife. USA retirement funds to my two U.S. Sons. US, no need for probate as I own ne US property and so not a resident of any US state. Funds pass to beneficiaries directly.

Good question. You can't send any money out while you're alive without a work permit or the correct documents.

I am interested to know how this works when dead too.

I hate the thought of my family having to take weeks of work to deal with bureaucracy in Thailand.

The mention of providing documents such as FET seems to be a good idea and something I had not considered preparing for my family.

Currently working as Executor named in a foreigner’s Thai Will. Filed paper to be officially Thai Court appointed. Attorney says up to 4 months …

The heir have to be in Thailand for long time, or come to Thailand multiple times.

Court takes time. And so does bank.

But most important is that the heir needs to have a bank account, before any transfers can be made.

I have gone through all this with my deceased friend's brother. And not finished yet after 2 years....

Thai will for Thai assets (condo, vehicle and 800k in Thai bank) costs about 5,000 Baht. What the Thai lawyers will not tell, unless pushed, is that to conduct probate will cost upwards of 150,000 Baht from your estate to handle probate and disburse to benefactors. Best to disburse yourself before demise if possible.
