Deputy Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police, Pol. Gen. Krichai Klaiklung, on January 7, visited the scene of a fire that damaged police flats in Viphavadi, Bangkok, offering support to the affected officers and their families.

The fire occurred on 6 January at the Police Flats, Viphavadi, in the Chatuchak district. Pol. Gen. Krichai was accompanied by several senior officers, including Pol. Maj. Gen. Samit Suwanasukroj, Commander of the Welfare Division, and other police leaders who welcomed him at the scene.

The fire is suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit, though the exact source of the fault is still under investigation. Forensics officials are collecting evidence to confirm the cause.

Three police families were directly affected by the fire, with temporary accommodation provided by the Welfare Division while the damage is assessed.

Pol. Gen. Krichai ordered immediate upgrades to fire safety at the building, including the installation of smoke and heat detection systems in the building. These measures aim to prevent future incidents developing, particularly reducing the risk of smoke inhalation or burns.

The police chief also instructed the Engineering Division to expedite the repairs, ensuring that the building is upgraded for the safety of its occupants. In addition, emergency financial aid and essential items were provided to the affected police families. Among the families impacted, one had a seven-year-old child who is bedridden due to a disability.

The incident has prompted renewed attention to the living conditions and welfare of police officers, particularly in the provision of safe housing.
