Georgealbert Posted January 11 Posted January 11 Picture from responders. An incident occurred on the Chiang Mai-Lampang Superhighway when a green Volvo car collided with a utility pole and was engulfed in flames, killing the driver trapped inside. Authorities are working to confirm the victim’s identity, with evidence suggesting the deceased may have been a lawyer. The incident occurred on the evening of January 10, near the Pa Bong police checkpoint on the Chiang Mai-Lampang Superhighway. Highway police, firefighters, and rescue personnel rushed to the scene following reports of the crash. By the time emergency crews arrived, the vehicle was entirely consumed by flames, with the driver trapped inside. It took over 30 minutes for firefighters to extinguish the blaze. Upon inspection of the burnt-out vehicle, identified as a Volvo car, registered in Bangkok, officials discovered documents in the trunk indicating the owner was a lawyer. A charred driver’s license and lawyer’s certificate were recovered, bearing the name Mr. Phumin. The remains of the victim, burned beyond recognition, were sent to Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital’s forensic department for further examination and for family members to confirm the deceased’s identity. Police are investigating the cause of the accident, including whether the car’s use of LPG as fuel may have contributed to the fire. The Chiang Mai forensics team is expected to conduct a thorough investigation to determine the precise circumstances leading to the crash. -- 2025-01-12 1 1
