Extend stay after retirement visa expires

Your passport expires "next year", September 2026?  So why did the IO tell you you needed a new one to renew 17 months beforehand?  

 

Edited as noted your intended renewal (extension?) is April 2026?  What are your doing this year?  Anyway, if you get the new passport before April 2026 then the extension will go in that - but it's not very clear what you actually have right now.

Once the clock on the wall says 0001 on the day after your extension expires you are OVERSTAY there is nothing  around that.  you need to leave the country. Go across the border come back on the new visa.

 

If you have everything you need to extend then simply do that and do not worry about it.  If you don't then it is best to go out of the country and come back in on a tourist visa.

 

The question you do  not anwer is how long after it expires are you planning to stay?

She told me to get a new one before my retirement visa expires in April 2026 (5 months before the passport expires) but that means my Retirement stamps will be in my old invalid passport with the corner cut off in it which is where my concern is.  For example I go and try and do a 90 day, but I have a passport with no retirement stamp in it only an old one with the corner cut off that has my retirement in it, also if I wanted to do an exit/entry in the time between getting the new passport and a 90 day how would that be possible?

  Renw your passport march 26 and then get everything shifted over to it.  You can not get a 1 year extension if you have less than a year on your passport.

Sorry but actually what expires April 2026?  You say "retirement visa" but actually what do you refer to?

When you obtain a new passport then yes your old pp is cancelled.

However note any valid visa, permission of stay stamp, reentry permit etc remain valid.

You can just wait till you do your next extension to have visa info etc transfered. 

If you have any business with immigration office eg 90 day report etc you can do the transfers at that time.

Sometimes the reason to buy time is to season funds for extension.

Married folk can obtain 60 day extension to visa wife to facilitate that.

Your suggestion of exiting Thailand to reenter visa exempt would kill off his non O and ability to obtain 12 month extensions.

Hello everyone and thanks for you help with this one, it is confusing the heck out of me, and possible I am not explaining very clearly!
It is Udon Immigration office.  It is a standard non-o retirement that I have renewed which is now valid until April 26  but there are obviously restrictions I believe like having 6 months remaining on the passport to renew so wouldn't be able to do that on the current passport in April next year given the current passport expires in September.
So for example:
i) If I got my new passport in November this year, just before my 90 days, could I do a 90 day on my new passport, I have a friendly IO that I could ask
ii) If I got my 90 days in November between November and April when my visa expires would an entry/exit be possible?
iii) As mentioned by @suzannegoh going to Lao after I get the new passport might be a possibility and then just renew my retirement on my new passport when got back?
Ah sorry just read @DrJack54 response yes without an Exit would kill off my non-o

How and when did you get an extension(?) until April 2026?  That is 15 months from now.  A standard retirement extension is 12.

I am not sure if it was when I applied for it and probably need to re-read my passport.
I am guessing the logical thing to do would be to try and schedule getting the new passport in between my last 90 day renewal and the expiry of the retirement, and make sure I don't need to do an exit for a couple of months.

Much appreciated all, I think I have actually confused myself and need to read my passport and probably should have before I got on the thread. 
It's still that time between my last 90 days and the visa expiry where I would have a new passport that confuses me.

I'd stop worrying about 90 day reports, that's the least important thing.  Check your dates properly and report back, then answer will be clear.

The OP started off that way.

At some point realized that his best option is to renew his annual extension and obtain reentry permit for trip back to Holland.

His concern is not having a rental agreement. 

Even that part is not clear.

He states.....

Hey guys apologies for confusing the OP I piggy backed onto this thread and really should have started a seperate one when I had all my details!

Just found a photocopy of my passport main page and expires in April (not my retirement!) which must mean my new non o expires 1 year from Jan but inside my passport so can't check that one for a week or so - any more questions I still start a new thread rather than confuse this one anymore hangover from the weekend 🙂

It's a while back but that's what I did. Being non the wiser at the time. I came in twice showing my current extension of stay and re entry permit in my old passport and offering the new passport for the entry and exit stamps. When renewal of edition time came the IO at Sahkon  Nakon did whatever transfer of stamps needed and charged me 2,000 baht. On top of the fee for the new extension..

wonder why they don't include this in this 1 year extension, but hey, thailand is barely in the 20th century

So you have zero issues.  Renew passport towards the end of this year and they'll do your new extension (it is not a new non-O) in the new passport, and make whatever references they want about your original visa, etc, .at the same time.

get a new passport way before u go for new extension as the new extension will not be given longer than the passport is good for
I always get mine a min of 18 months before they are due to expire 

Valid Visa is OLD/expired is still valid 

you can't go anywhere if u dont have a valid passport , 90 day report is not relevant .

To the OPs original question, as far as I know, one can apply for an extension, which subsequently will be denied. But that will give 7 days to leave the country (costs 1900 baht).

I know one can do this from a visa exemption, from which one already have extended once, and from a tourist visa, with the same procedure. 

I can't see why doing it from a 12 months extension based on retirement, would be any different.

Thoughts?

 

Of course, 7 days is not what the OP had in mind, but just saying there might be a possibility if anyone needs 7 more days to leave.
