The Body Shop, a popular British skincare brand, has announced it will be closing its stores across Thailand, with the final day of trading set for 31st January 2025.

 

In a heartfelt Facebook post, The Body Shop Thailand expressed gratitude, saying, "Thank you for all the love - See you again soon."

They reassured customers that this is not a permanent farewell but a temporary pause with the message, "Hold on a little longer and see you again soon!"

 

After years of providing environmentally friendly and ethically sourced beauty products, The Body Shop is taking this break with appreciation for all its customers’ support, hinting at a possible return in the future, reported Thai Rath.

not surprised they're closing down here ....   I've never seen 1 customer in their shop at a big modern mall near where I live.   

Many other shops similar,   how they can pay big rent and have few customers is beyond me. 

Shame nobody used them, all their products are good unlike the rubbish you buy on the loacal markets

Good products and service  but too expensive for most Thais. They should have been advised to focus on developed markets.

See you again soon huh, so they're closing down but have plans to return.

Foreign companies require Thai partners, I wonder who their Thai partner company is/was and if it operates as a franchise on a global level.

A mixed message or a real Byeeeeeeeeeeeee

There's a lot more to this than meets the eye.

The BodyShop UK, the parent company that operates the international franchises went into administration back in February 2024.

This entire company is in big trouble.

Aurea Group rescued it in September 2024.

Paying a premium for ethically sourced, environmentally friendly products doesn't seem like something that would be popular in Thailand...  🤔

No they don’t if they are BOI registered which most large retailers are.

Or anywhere these days, there is an interesting correlation between beauty products and recessions, during recessions women tend to reduce spending on beauty products like skin care but increase spending on lipstick, it is such a consistent trend that beauty shop owners know of a coming recession before the central banks or the Fed.

Something similar happened back in late 2023 just weeks before it went into administration.

Seems a little odd.

  Recession -> less income -> more blowies -> more lipstick.
