Runcorn and Helsby MP Mike Amesbury has admitted to assaulting a man in Cheshire, an incident captured on CCTV footage that surfaced in late October. The footage shows Amesbury punching 45-year-old Paul Fellows to the ground and then continuing to strike him as members of the public intervened.

Amesbury appeared at Chester Magistrates' Court, where he pleaded guilty to assault by beating. Outside the courtroom, the 55-year-old MP expressed deep remorse, calling his actions "highly regrettable" and offering a public apology to Mr. Fellows and his family. “I am sincerely sorry,” he stated.

The altercation occurred in the early hours of October 26 on Main Street in Frodsham. The court heard that Mr. Fellows recognized Amesbury while waiting at a taxi rank and approached him to discuss a local bridge closure. According to prosecutor Alison Storey, the two men initially spoke without raised voices or visible aggression. However, after Mr. Fellows began to walk away, Amesbury re-engaged, shouting and then punching him in the head with enough force to knock him down.

Following the initial strike, Amesbury reportedly hit Mr. Fellows at least five more times while he was on the ground. Witnesses recounted hearing Amesbury say, “You won’t threaten your MP again, will you?”

The incident, reported to police later that day, led to Amesbury being voluntarily interviewed under caution and subsequently charged with common assault on November 7. Amesbury, who has represented his constituency since 2017, was suspended from the Labour Party following the emergence of the footage and currently serves as an independent MP. The Labour Party has confirmed that his suspension will remain in place.

Reform UK has called for Amesbury to resign, arguing that he should "do the honourable thing" and allow a by-election. The Prime Minister's spokesperson declined to comment on whether Amesbury should step down.

Amesbury is scheduled to be sentenced next month. If he receives a prison term or a suspended sentence, he may face losing his seat in the House of Commons under parliamentary rules. Reflecting on the case, Amesbury acknowledged the seriousness of his actions, stating that the incident was "deeply regrettable" and affirming his cooperation with authorities.

Suspended? This says it all.

Why wasn't the puffed-up, self-pissing important, Union bully-boy sacked?

Probably because elected officials can't be sacked.

But their party can ditch them as party members.

Typical Labour thug.

I will be interesting to see how long he serves in jail, given the lengthy sentences for the social media posters.

Not one day apparently.

He has had his 10 week sentence suspended after his appeal was heard within just 3 days of the his already low sentence being given.   That's quite incredible how slowly the wheels of justice turned to get him into court and how fast they can turn to hear his appeal compared to those on the other side of the 2 tier justice system.   Meanwhile Lucy Connolly is about 3-4 months into her 31 month sentence for making an unpleasant social media post that didn't harm anybody, and Peter Lynch (who also didn't commit violence) is still dead after killing himself in jail as he couldn't face his 32 month sentence.

3 days to hear his appeal? I would say that's unbelievable but it's entirely believable, predictable even in Britain's 2 tier system. Also predictable that his already very light sentence was then suspended despite punching a constituent to the ground and repeatedly striking him in the face while he was down there while calling him "soft lad". All caught on camera.

The armchair social media posters were charged, tried and jailed to multiple year sentences within a week. As was the guy who shouted at a police dog.

Meanwhile Labour's Ricky Jones who called for people's throats to be slit back in September 2024 still hasn't been to trial, it's been delayed once and the latest court date is August 2025.

Yet people still deny the existence of the 2 tier justice system 😄.

The judge in his case was Judge Everett.  He previously sentenced a grandmother, Julie Sweeney (who had no previous convictions) to a 15 month jail sentence for just one single unpleasant post on facebook.

Possibly the most egregious example of 2 tier justice in recent memory.

I guess that's why the gaslighting "it's all in your head" "you're imagining it" brigade have miraculously missed this thread 😄.

Not even a lazy "self stroked grievance" quip straight from the shortcut key.

A nasty Face book post from the wife of a Tory councillor = 2 years 8 months in jail.

Assault with multiple punches to the head from a Labour MP, including when the victim is already on the floor in a  defensive position = no jail.

Only today Starmer was telling Trump/Vance how proud he is of freedom of speech in Britain. Incredible.

He's Labour, so expect a slap on the wrist and a stern talking to from the judge. I'd imagine the judge will then explain what a terrible time he has had, how he was weally weally upset he didn't get into his preferred Uni 30 years ago, followed by a "suspended" sentence, Huw Edwards style.

2 Tier Keir has it all wrapped up.

I mean he only punched a constituent to the ground and then laid into them while they were defenseless. It's not like he did something terrible like posted something nasty on social media.

He’s not ‘Labour’, he has been suspended from the party, refer the OP.

Feeling aggrieved Jonny?

That ‘nasty social media post’ you were referring to was actually inciting arson:

Link for anyone interested in the facts as they are rather than the obfuscation you present:
