As a former Thai history teacher, I see many similarities between Trump and Pibul Songkram.

 

Songkhram had strong nationalist policies, he  modernized Thailand and promoted Thai culture through policies that emphasized national identity. He changed the country's name from Siam to Thailand, symbolizing unity and independence.

 

Trump emphasized "America First" policies, economic protectionism, and prioritizing American interests over global alliances.

 

Songkhram used state-controlled media to build a strong image of himself as a modernizer and protector of Thai sovereignty.

 

Trump used social media, particularly X, to directly communicate with his base, bypassing fake media and shaping his public image.
