Should I do my own tax online or just pay a Thai accountant

I normally pay a fee to the accountant to prepare a tax return for my 150k a month salary. But wondering now if I can just log onto their system and do it myself. If you have ever done it online whats the url and do they have English option? 

 

Im not at all concerned about the new tax laws that we read about every week and will not abide by them. 

 

I think the Rev dept is incompetent and cannot even tax its own citizens let alone enforce new laws on farang. They will rely on 'honest' farang declaring such income as per the rules. But if you dont report it I think there will be no consequences. 

 

If you can advise about the online system I would be grateful for your opinion.

if they want non thais to pay, first thing would have english speaking people (woehahaha) and a working english language website (even more lol)

 

but as always, show them who's boss

 

if you read correctly, they will even force you to certify translate your documents on top of all...

I have been doing my own tax online through the RD's e-filing for several years now. There is no English version of the website, but you can find English versions of the tax forms (PND90, PND91, etc) which correspond to the website. You sign up for an account, add your TIN, enter all your tax numbers, upload any receipts, then wait for the RD to process it and transfer your refund by PromptPay or mail out a cheque. You can log back into your account to check the progress of your filing anytime, and you can download a copy of the completed tax form to use as a reference for filing the next year.

Good point -it might be a requirement at either visa renewal or work permit.i expect to pay something but i would like the trash collected  regularly and on time(which means basically extra trucks to cover those not in service) and then if you subscribe to a news publication like Bangkok Post- a vote.Taxation without representation is immoral.(although i believe the UK has reinstated voters rights if living abroad  for longer than 10 years).

Q2. The KBank mobile app to register for PromptPay does not allow for non Thai National IDs. Is PromptPay for foreigners even possible with KBank?

The English versions of the PND90 and PND91 tax forms  for 2024 have not been released yet.

Does the online tax system have any provisions to cater for non-taxable remitted income included in your countries DTA with Thailand, or any way to claim tax credits on other remitted income which has already been taxed in your home country?

True, but with the Chrome browser (which I use) you can select the "Translate to English" option upon clicking on the home page, and you should then be presented with reasonable English translations without any further prompting from then on. My tax office registered me for this system when I visited them yesterday with a paper return based on the 2024 Thai forms (after getting fed up with waiting for the English versions to materialise). During a test log-in I was able to drill down, all in English, as far as the PND90/91 section, but could not get any further as I had already submitted my return for the 2024 tax year!

 

So the proof of the pudding will likely only come in my case when I file my 2025 return this time next year.

I started the registration process last week as I wanted to do what you have done and have a look around the online system, but when I came to the end I wasn't happy with agreeing to be bound by the T&Cs to file online without having viewed the online system first. so I cancelled the process.

As for your filing, was it accepted and what was the result? Did you have to provide supporting docs? Did you submit PND90 or PND91 and how did you decide which one to use?

Do you have remitted income that is covered by the DTA? If yes, did you report it?

Do you have remitted income that has already been taxed in the UK? If yes, did you report it?

Sorry for all the Q's but I'm just trying to gather as much info as I can

Last year I submitted the e-filing on 29 March and received the refund cheque in the mail on 11 April. The PromptPay option is only for Thais.

I think you have no experience of Thailand at all. 

 

We have a business with high level Thai professionals working for us on contract part time. I know for a fact that they do not report income and pay a very small amount of tax. They get away with this for years. In the first week of jan I give them the document of total income for the prior year. But I bet they dont report it. Talked with several of them and they dont care. I stand by my comment that the thai rev dept is hopeless govt department. Look at the thousands of vendors in markets who dont pay a dime of tax. Do you think the workers in 7 11 pay tax haha no way. The list goes on.

My filing was accepted without question, and I was not required to provide any supporting docs.

I submitted a PND91 on the grounds that my sole source of assessable income in 2024 was the UK State Pension. But, interestingly, the revised version I was presented with after the Revenue Office staff member I dealt with had recorded my data in their system before my eyes was based on the PND90 form!

I did remit in 2024 income which is covered by the UK/Thailand DTA in the form of my UK government occupational pension, but I did not report it.

I also remitted in 2024 income which had already been taxed in the UK in the form of the UK State Pension and proceeds from the sale of my UK house in 2021, but I only reported the element relating to the UK State Pension, based pro rata on remittance totals in THB terms.

Yes.  The only people I know who pay taxes are government workers and those working for major corporations. 

They are basically forced the pay.  The rest, I doubt many do.

I registered easily with my phone number but likely this is not useful for tax refunds.

My pleasure! As regards the form to be used, I distinctly recall @chiang mai stating on here a while back that, even where foreigners' assessable income solely consisted of pensions, the TRD would probably, in his view, require returns to be filed with the PND90 - rather than PND91 - form, for reasons which now escape me. Looks like he was right!

I do recall that post by @chiang mai. If no new tax forms are release by the end of February, I will probably just do as you have done and use the  2024 Thai version of the PND90 or 91.

in which @chiang mai stated 'I have a feeling that because the income is remitted from overseas, that may push it into the "other" income category and dictate that PND90 is used.'

 

So, if and when the TRD were eventually to switch to taxing us on the basis of when our pension income was actually earned (rather than remitted to Thailand, as at present), we would presumably then be able to use the PND91 form for reporting it if that was our sole source of assessable income!

For tax refunds, the TRD will only pay to PromptPay accounts linked to a Thai ID card number, not a phone number.
